    I love my CZ but...

So I own a wide variety of handguns (1911s, Berettas, Sigs, Glocks, S&W, Khar and probably a couple more). Finally gave in and bought a CZ SP01 last year.

This gun shoots fantastic and is super accurate. Lower bore axis = less felt recoil, follow up shots are easier. Love the trigger, weight and features. Ergonomics of the grip and the size is perfect for my medium size hands. For everything that makes this gun great, I don’t shoot it that often anymore for one reason, the Slide.

I don’t think I will ever plan on using this gun as a self defense gun or a gun I’d compete with. To me racking this gun is not easy. It’s not difficult in resistance but in terms of real estate - there is very little to grab on to, also some controls in the way if you grab to much, and I don’t even have large hands - I’m sure with a bunch of practice it could become second nature but it’s so different from everything else i shoot with. If I bring the gun up to eye level and pinch the serrations it isn’t bad but also not super natural for me to that.

Anyone else have this issue with CZs or similar clones? I’m gonna keep firing a way from time to time and see if I get use it to.

      Imho I felt the same.
      Pros
      Fits hand well.
      Laser accurate.
      Nice trigger.

      Cons
Tight chamber. Can be ammo picky and a hiccup can be challenging to clear to say the least.
Lack of real estate on the slide, as mentioned. I really tried to like the pistol. But I ended up trading for a g35.
Ymmv. But that darn slide is pretty small.

CZ P07, same issues (real estate). does shoot everything though, & shoots it well, not 1911 well, but damn good for what I use it for.

The slide took some getting use to but for how well I shoot the SP01 and the comfort of it completely makes up for the slide.

I picked one up and held it at the LGS. only took about 15 seconds for me to realize this was definitely not for me. Gaston has everything I ever needed.

I have picked up CZ's and never liked them enough to buy, I noticed they always have finish wear just from handling? the barrel & hood always look worn just from being in the display, looks like standard blueing that wears off easily.

I agree on the low profile slide, it does feel awkward since you cant grab it like a regular slide, I prefer a full slide that isnt sunken down like that, a Browning HP slide design feels better.

The low profile slide is precisely the reason it's such a sweet shooter.

Shoot it enough and you get used to the smaller slide profile. On the other hand, I don't think I will ever get used to the horrible trigger on my Glock pistols.........

Anyone that would choose a Glock over a CZ probably likes dried out crusty old blondes.........

Rack a CZ phantom and the slide on the sp01 will seem enormous.

I definitely see myself getting a CZ in the near future, but I already know it would be relegated to safe queen: my habits of cheap ammo, deferred maintenance and aversion to manual safeties puts me squarely in Glock territory for real work. I don’t think anyone has ever said, “Would be nice if this Glock slide was a bit chunkier...”

I’ve owned two SP01 a tactical(decocker only)and a standard model. Sold the tactical long ago when I dumped all my DA/SA guns, still have the standard model. I never had a problem with the small slide, my problem with it is the horrible shape of the trigger. The pronounced curve is just terrible for long aggressive training days, I literally hate it. I keep saying one of these days I will get the trigger changed out to something more reasonable, like the trigger that comes with a standard 75b. I have one of those and enjoy shooting it much more. I also like my P09 and P10c more then my SP01 and shoot those much more often.
Im a warmonger baby, I got blood in my eyes and I'm looking at you.

There is nothing miraculous about a CZ. The bore axis is NOT lower than a Glock. It looks lower because the slide sits inside the frame. Go measure, I'll wait. Same reason you get the short slide. The reason they feel so soft-shooting is because they're made out of steel.

They're decently accurate, but nothing special. Definitely no better (no worse either) than a Beretta 92. If they were so accurate, CZ Custom would have had no need to make the Accu-Shadow bushing system.

They have a habit of breaking slide stop pins, but that's usually competition guys with high round counts.

Lots of aftermarket, which makes them fun for tinkerers, but again, nothing magical about them other than a comfortable grip and weight, cause they're made out of steel. A nice $650.00 gun (the SP01).
