I went to local range and noticed at one of the private ranges a group of younger shooters -- looked like all were in their late teens/ early 20s. I make note of the age because one of my buddies noticed that when their black rifles came out they were all dropping mags and it's very doubtful that any of their guns were registered AW's because they were all probably too young to register their guns. My question is this -- would you stick your nose in & req they follow the law as it applies or would you turn the blind eye or would you report to range?

Bullet buttons allow drop mags. Ask to admire there rifles.Let us hope our weapons are never needed --but do not forget what the common people knew when they demanded the Bill of Rights: An armed citizenry is the first defense, the best defense, and the final defense against tyranny. If guns are outlawed, only the government will have guns. Only the police, the secret police, the military, the hired servants of our rulers. Only the government -- and a few outlaws. I intend to be among the outlaws."
-- Edward Abbey, "Abbey's Road", 1979 -
As a supporter of the uninfringed right to keep and bear arms, I wouldnt get up into people's business or be a tattle tale. The only valid circumstance i believe it is necessary to either say something to chasten another gun owner or report to a range master is to deal with specific safety concerns. I don't care what configuration your 'evil' firearm is- I just dont want it pointed in my direction or to see your nose probe anywhere near the trigger unless you're pointed down range.

Sometimes the law defends plunder and participates in it. Sometimes the law places the whole apparatus of judges, police, prisons and gendarmes at the service of the plunderers, and treats the victim -- when he defends himself -- as a criminal. Bastiat

Depending on how they were acting, I'd mosey over and ask some simple questions about their gun to start a conversation. If it seemed like it was an illegally configured setup, I'd pull out the handy AW flowchart and give it to them. Just tell them nobody wants the po-po taking ANYONE'S guns. And that a felony can sure put a damper on a young man Firearm owning life.
What they do with the information is up to them. But we don't need other gun owners giving us black eyes. Nor a misguided gun owner being deprived of his 2nd A rights for a loong time. Remember, we are all in this together!

I have seen the flux of ownership in the state since I've gotten into guns 20+ years ago & I really don't want to infinge on anyone's enjoyment of their firearms. My thing is that, as fragile as the situation is in CA, I hate it when some enthusiasts ignore the laws entirely to do what they want.Comment

Ah yes, the concept of minding your own business. I agree completely be free to do your thingComment

If they are illegally configured and / or unregistered, it's their life they are fooling with, not yours. While it might be nice to strike up a conversation and determine if they are good guys or yayhoos I wouldn't just walk up and ask them if their goods are legal or start lecturing.

It's their risk. It's their business. It's not your business. MYOB!I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!Comment

One possibility is that they are active military that have acquired temp military AW permits. I will only poke my nose in their business if I observe unsafe firearms handling or see something that is in violation of the law. Just seeing mags being dropped and nothing else out of the ordinary is not sufficient to suspect a violation of the law.sigpicComment

could be quick with the bb's or they might have had u-15's or MMGs
If they indeed were doing something illegal I might strike up a convo to see if they knew so
