PPT at Turners

Worst case scenario is they make you buy a new lock for each of them. They've been cracking down more on the OEM locks and sometimes check the lock that is with it to see if it's the Original lock.
A lot of times depends on the guy who's doing the ppt, but Turners is absolutely by-the-book. One PPT was for an early 90's Beretta. The lock was obviously original (blue - had Beretta markings, etc), but because the cable itself is thinner than the current regulations they made me buy a new one.
I avoid Turner's whenever possible and I've done PPT's at five or so of them (only because they were the only thing around).
To be fair, they're doing what the DOJ requires them to do... But I'd go elsewhere personally.Comment

Bring unmarked unbranded unopened locks with y9u and make sure you out them into the gun case before you walk in the store.
Dont make the mistake on one of my ppts. He put an hk lock in a springfield case didnt pass i had to buy a lock. But if the are unmarked unbranded unopend lock they will 80%of the time just assume it was the manufactured provided lock and give you a pass

Awesome, appreciate your info and experience. I always hear both negative and positive outcomes but never used them for a PPT. Might consider looking into another dealer. Thanks again!Worst case scenario is they make you buy a new lock for each of them. The problem is they have chose to do ALOT more than the DOJ requires. Alot of extra internal paperwork, forms, trip to the cashier inthe middle of the PPT to get more paperwork, Having two managers check over the paperwork, etc. It all adds to alot of extra time. The fastest I have ever done a PPT at any Turners (done 3-4 inthe last 12 months at 2 different stores) is 45 minutes. Worst is 1.75 hrs. 6-7 guns for PPT? Hell no.

As others have mentioned, they go by the book, plus sometimes staff isn't all on the same page. If its your only resort, look for a manager (black shirt) as they are more straight forward and know what they are doing. Also, they do take their time on PPTs: checking-in firearm at front of store, walking back and forth with paperwork, etc. Gun locks may be an issues, it may be not. Depends on who you deal with. The locks are 6.99 and say Turners on them. I had to buy one recently since I bought a new gun without an approved CA lock.Comment

The very last place on earth I would ever PPT. So many ways for it to go off the rails, and the lock is the very least of your worries. If buying a lock was the only problem, it wouldn't even be a problem just an annoyance.Comment

This. Go somewhere else. A place that actually knows the CA laws.
