Mosin Nagant m44 broken extractor, still functions?

Found an issue with my old soviet bear.

Cleaning this morning, I discovered that the extractor claw off my bolt head was completely broken off. Not surprising to me, since it looked to be the same extractor that the gun came with. Now, a few questions that came to mind:

-Will the firearm function without the extractor claw? I've seen an old guy at the range just tilting his gun back due to the fact that he was also missing an extractor in his mosin, but I wasnt sure if this was just freak of nature or coincidence. I've also heard that rounds might get stuck in the barrel, and I'd rather avoid that than anything else.

-Is it safe to fire without an Extractor?

-Where to get a new bolt head? Figured I should just replace the entire head as this one is extremely worn.

Oh thats a good price. All the ones I looked up on their website at first were coming out to around 50 dollars.
