Does an FFL collect tax on a PPT now???

Nope unless you exchange cash in the store then they might charge tax

My LGS is same as above, cash exchange in store = tax. I called a LGS in San Bruno for a PPT recently, and they did not care if cash inside or out, they would not charge tax. So may be best to check with the specific shop.

Yes some gun store if u exchange cash inside they will charge tax .

This is a store policy and I have no idea how the FFL can justify charging tax even if money is exchanged inside the store but between 2 people, not between the store and the customer.

I was told the same. But, I thought the clerk was just being a jerk. He also didn't let the buyer inspect the firearm. He said "you should have done that before coming here". So, I don't know....I kinda think they don't want any potential beefs starting in the store, as well as it looks a bit tacky and lowers their "brand" name.

It's a tax-collector (Board of Equalization, I think) opinion, that they enforce as if it were law.

The difference is whether BOE would think, or in the opinion of the FFL the BOE might think, that the FFL has some position other than 'required use of FFL' - more involvement seems to trigger BOE's idea that tax is required.

Thus, $$ outside is pretty common, to keep the FFL at the 'required activity' level.
