    Traveling to Yellowstone

    Hello All,

I will be traveling to Yellowstone from OC in two weeks. Any recommendations on places to stop at to peruse? Also, I plan on CCWing while driving over there. I reveiwed most restrictions on NV, UT, and ID for conceal carry. Any others to be aware than the obvious ones (federal property, schools, etc).

    Thanks in advance!

Are you running on a California CCW ?

If your pilot tells you he is going to circle Ol Faithful until it goes off, pass.

My Father did that and the only thing that erupted was my stomach.

No matter what they say DO not swim in the hot springs

Do not play chicken with your car and a Buffalo, they don't back down.

And the Raft ride on the Snake river is worthwhile.

Yes, I have a CA CCW; AZ, UT, and FL non-res. I figured I could take my UT or FL permit along with my CA CCW.

Idaho recognizes all other states' carry permits.

If you're involved with LE contact like a traffic stop, LE here ASSUME you are armed from the git-go. They generally do not freak out. Open carry is as legal as concealed, people who've been around a while may think it's a bit tacky / touristy in large cities. Concealed has no issues...you can walk into a legislative meeting room at the Capitol, armed.

Be sure to check the NPS regs for firearms in Yellowstone and any other parks you want to visit. They regs may be different than state laws.

ALL buildings are a no go for guns, even the bathrooms. To be legal requires you to store your gun in you vehicle.

Go to Cody Wy. Visit the Winchester museum. Enter the park from the Fishing bridge entrance . Exit the park at Jackson hole . In the Grand Tetons take the slow scenic raft trip.

Take a day and go to the Cody museum at the east gate. Jackson Hole is a neat town to walk around. We generally go to the park through West Yellowstone, it's a little easier then going through Jackson Hole.

I'll second the Bison alert, they are by far the most dangerous animal in the park, be very careful when driving at night.

Take a spotting scope if you have one.

                  Where are you staying at?

Agree with Cody Firearms Museum. My daughter's reaction? "Dad, I think I'm going to cry. " Parenting win.

I only regret not trying full auto or the gatling gun while in that area.

West Yellowstone also has at least one range with full auto for rent.. the gondola ride up from Teton Village is pretty cool too

The majority of Yellowstone follows federal law and not the state laws. This is because Yellowstone became a National Park before the states in encompasses became states. It is a quirk many people do not realize.

A CCW allows you to either CC or OC. If you OC, expect some reactions from tourists, especially Brits. When I went a few years ago, I was hiking in the backcountry but I needed to OC so I had better access to my firearm as my CC rig did not work with my daypack. A met a few Brits and they were very vocal about feeling scared due to my gun. Two reported me to the NPS and I was visited by rangers both times. They asked me to either CC or put it in my pack. I politely declined.

You will get some pressure to carry bear spray and not guns, especially if you OC.

I carried both. Both have their use IMHO. My wife does not like guns so she also had the bear spray so I told her she had the first chance to prevent me from shooting the bear. Bear spray does not work if the wind is blowing towards you.

A busload of Japanese tourists busted out their cameras to take pictures of the crazy American with his gun and then got back on the bus until I left. Then they got off to walk around the area. My wife would not let me get back out to see what they would do.

It might be too early, but when I visited, Madison was covered in Roosevelt Elk.

I did see two grizzlies when I went. As usual, they never bothered me. It was the 2 legged predators that were more of a concern. I did enjoy the idiot that honked at a bison and the bison then rammed his Dodge Big Horn twice in the front and 3 times on the side. It needed to be towed out of there.
Anyone can look around and see the damage to the state and country inflicted by bad politicians.

A vote is clearly much more dangerous than a gun.

Why advocate restrictions on one right (voting) without comparable restrictions on another (self defense) (or, why not say 'Be a U.S. citizen' as the requirement for CCW)?

Hit Cody for sure and make sure you make it to the new night rodeo and downtown gunfights. Make sure to make it over the beartooth pass and over to red lodge too. Get in to the park extra early and pack your own food. Be sure to be heading back by noon. If you can make t make sure to visit butte
