I recently sold my business and have enough time this summer for a cross country road trip. We are going to visit family and see the sites along the way. I have a CA and AZ permit that gets me most states along the way. I would hate to go all the way to the East Coast and not see NY City but I would also hate to travel for 3 weeks without being armed. Is there any legal way to transport a handgun thru NY with planned overnight stays? Maybe stripped down and locked in separate containers. From what I have read it is a 'no go' but hoping that I have missed something. Any info / suggestions are appreciated.

Road Trip Including NY

I traveled to that part of the country last year, and visited both New York, New Jersey, and a few other spots. After researching what I could, I decied to park my sidearm at a relative's house in Pennsylvania for that five day period, knowing that those who proclaim to be "protecting" the public were very happy to arrest and prosecute good citizens. To me it just wasn't worth the stress of potentially being discovered by the goons. -
Avoid NYC like the plague. If you thought we had it bad here in Kommiefornia it's even worse in NYCComment

Yeah, maybe he can find a gun shop in PA that offers storage or something like that. Then pick it up on his way out. He'll be unarmed in NY but he doesn't have to worry because he'll be protected by the strong laws they have.I traveled to that part of the country last year, and visited both New York, New Jersey, and a few other spots. Be very careful on this one, some may consider that to be a transfer in which you would need another 4473 to get it back, but he's not a resident of PA so it could get sticky. Check all local laws before committing to any decisions.
Leaving with friends or family is a much preferred option, again local laws may apply regarding transfer and eligibility.Comment

If they only knew what I've traveled through their airport with while making connecting flights.....their fear alone would wash the poop off the streets.Comment

You may have already read this...I recently sold my business and have enough time this summer for a cross country road trip. We are going to visit family and see the sites along the way. The best way to travel through NY or any state that has restriction is to carry a copy of Title 18-Part 1-
Chapter 44 926A of the federal code with you. Some law enforcement may not know the law. DO keep the
firearm in a locked box. Keep ammo in another locked box. No ammo in Magazines or speed loaders in the
trunk or if no trunk as far back in the vehicle as possible in a locked box. By NY Law if you are traveling
across the state and can legally possess the firearm where you started and where you are going you can
transport it as above. But if you stop in NY and spend the night in a motel/hotel/camp ground etc you are in
violation of NY law and can be arrested if found with a firearm. Stopping for gas and food would most likely
be OK but this is not a given in NY.Comment

Nope, they have to take possession to be a transfer. Places that offer that service know what they have to do and usually that amounts to you having the only key that secures the gun one way or another.Be very careful on this one, some may consider that to be a transfer in which you would need another 4473 to get it back, but he's not a resident of PA so it could get sticky. Reality check. How many times in your life have you been stopped and had your car searched? Most likely never. The risk of getting robbed or assisted is greater than the risk of getting caught with a firearm. I prefer to be able to protect my family. The man who trades freedom for security does not deserve nor will he ever receive either.
