I've got a gun book somewhere showing a Vietnam era "colt commando" that looks almost identical to that top one. They were issued to special forces. So, looks like a couple of cool retro builds.

I have one, made it featureless, mmg, and fake birdcage thread protector. Had to slick out the lower myself, as there weren't any 80% retro lowers at the time(don't know if that's still the case?)

Upper is a legit m16, but the barrel has been cut down to carbine length, "dissapator" style. Surplus hanguards and a1 stock. Technically the closest "real" AR type I got.

Was going to register it so I could put a real three prong and correct grip, but , it doesn't look too bad featureless with the mmg.

Honestly, nowadays I think as long as your carry handle is part of the upper reciever it qualifies as retro.
