Red Dot on Sig P229 357 Sig

I am considering getting my slide milled for a red dot. I have found a company SAS Tactical Customs that the cost is quite reasonable and people seem to like their work. I have talked to Sig and they said they reason they have not come out with a red dot for 40 S&W and 357 Sig is that red dots they have used for pistols do not seem to stand up to the punishment of the larger calibers.

So my question is, without costing an arm and a leg, what besides Trijicon RMR would you think would stand up to the punishment (assuming even they would be OK). I could buy a 9mm slide but my magazines would only be limited to 10 round at this point.

My eyes are getting older and I find the red dot to be very easy to use.

I'd go with the RMR or the holosun 507c. The RMR's are the golden standard but i've heard a lot of good things about the 507c, for around 200 dollars less....

One thing to keep in mind is that Sig's tend to have a higher bore access and so when you put an Red Dot on top of that....it can take a bit of getting used to. It sits a bit higher than say a Glock or a CZ...

Without a doubt though, Red dots are the way to go. Even beyond ageing eyes....your accuracy and shot times increase exponentially.

The Sig Romeo 1 is the one that Sig implied was not suitable for 357 Sig or 40 S&W but they did not tell me why. Maybe it's the mount ?

Austin @Sig customer service got me the part number for the mount from Opticsplanet for my 229-1 (after a series a questions to confirm I had a -1) and clarified -after confirming with a senior customer service rep- that I could not mount the Romeo1 on my 224 as well. The only thing I could not do was use the suppressor back up sights to cowitness. I would have to get a new 9mm RX slide to do that. It has to do with the way the Romeo1 is mounted on the -1 slide compared to the dedicated mounting surface made on the RX slides

I do want to have co-witness sights. If I wanted to get a new 9mm RX slide and convert from 357 Sig to 9mm it would be a lot easier
