    Target Master Milpitas

I heard on the radio going to work yesterday that Target Master in Milpitas has been closed down for excess lead contamination in the ground. No surprise. Apparently other neighboring businesses were also shut down.
For Target Master, first it was no selling guns, now no range...what's left?

Closed for cleanup. I think it's temporary.

Ugh, I hope they clean up and reopen soon ... because I don’t want Reeds to get overcrowded now.

Ugghh! Didn't fully consider that. With Jackson Arms gone, if TM is out for some time, Reed's may become a cluster.

                  Target masters was crap anyways.
"It is currently CA legal to modify a double-action revolver into a single-action revolver and modify a single-action revolver into a double-action revolver.

CA DOJ BOF stance on modifying handguns only applies to dimensionally compliant bolt-action single-shot pistols and dimensionally compliant break-open single-shot pistols.
^It does not apply to revolvers, manually operated repeating pistols, and semi-auto pistols." ~~ Quiet

There's a bit more to the story.

An "investigative reporter" who isn't enthusiastic about guns used lead contamination as a way to get the city to shutdown the range. I work with a fellow who used & maintained the Federal Reserve range in SF and he tells me staying in compliance is a never ending task, that one can be out of code nearly immediately after a clean up.

That some jackass reporter can use his position to get the city to close a range should be cause for concern. Who's next? And it would be nice to remember there are about a dozen or so people who may be permanently out of a job, who have to figure out another way to pay bills and put food on the table for themselves and family. Rather than the "I didn't like that place anyway" routine. Which may eventually be replaced by "remember when you could go to a shooting range in CA?"

Big thread on it in general firearms discussion.

I went to TM Saturday AM and saw it was closed. Called Reeds and they said "we're not very busy". In the time it took to drive over they became very, very busy. Waiting list, which grew longer as we took our turn shooting.

Yeah. I'm guessing weekends at Reeds are going to get crowded regularly. I tend to try and shoot weekdays anyway, but maybe I'll be forced to in any event. I used to bounce between Jackson and Reeds (I am on Peninsula so about same distance). With Jackson gone and TM out for at least some time at best, going to be tough to just head out to a range sort of spur of the moment.

Pretty sure not many on this forum are going to miss that place.
