Don't DROS with a temporary license

Guess I learned the hard way! Apparently the DOJ doesn't care for a temporary license when your actual license is expired. In my case, the DMV is holding the new license until I pass my motorcycle test or take the MSF. I can still drive legally, of course.

So maybe this was common knowledge but this was my first DROS with a temporary license and it was rejected.

    Now you know...

Ahhh.. the 'ol DMV REJECT.. Happens pretty frequently.. Have your current Drivers Lic, and make sure the address you put on the DROS matches whats in the DMV database. If you've moved recently, and put your new address without updating the DMV, it will happen too.. $25 down the drain..

So does this mean that the CADOJ will always have a temporary red flag on your DROS process?

      J/K.

Get your M1. And then do the DROS all over again. You'll get yer gun.

I remember the first time I had learned this when a customer was doing a purchase. He had a temporary license because he was waiting for his actual one to come in the mail. Apparently when we submit the information to DOJ, DMV is hooked up to the system so they know that the temporary license in not the hard-copy. So the less learned here, make sure you have a current and physical driver's license or ID when you purchase.

I had this happen to me, too.

Weak. Your temp license is actual identification for a police encounter, but not for a gun purchase? I don't think so...

dmv told me that your temporary license and your expired picture license must be together to provide an acceptible form of ID. I wasn't allowed in a courthouse because i didn't have both.

You as an FFL should know better then to take a paper temp lic.. Hell it states right on the front NOT VALID as IDENTIFICATION

Yeah I am a little disappointed too. The BOF does not care what address you put on the 4473 or DROS. If you got DMV rejected, it is because your license is not valid. Period. Address has never mattered.

Let's boycott JK Supply for spreading FUD.

FUD, whatever.. What fear uncertaintly and doubt am I spreading? So, if a seemingly valid license (as evidenced by a valid expiration date on the lic) is used for the DROS, and the customer states that he has recently moved, and uses his new address on the DROS, what would cause the denial on a DMV reject? Can a lic be invalidated even if the individual still has possession of the lic? Then, 1 week later, the customer explains that he updated the info with the DMV, re-DROSes, and it clears? A Peace Officer no less. So what now? Oh, wait, let me check my FFL handbook FAQ.

                      Really?

So what's the purpose of Title 11, Division 5, Chapter 4, Evidence of Residency Documentation?

If your address is not current on your DL, you just need to simply provide proof of residence like a bill or registration.

Address does not matter for DROS. You still have to have the proper address for the 4473 or at least have some sort of secondary proof of residency if the DL doesn't match the current address. Of course you don't need a copy, you just write down the type of documentation you looked at.

This is correct; there really is no need for popcorn chewing. Wes knows what he is talking about quite well and this is as common as a 4473 form, even in CA. Plenty of FFLs will ask you if your ID you present to them is your current address - they are asking to be sure whatever residence address evidence you do end up providing them matches the 4473/DROS. And they'll still want to copy your license.
