    Top Focal Shooting Glasses?

Decided to post this one hear to avoid all the clutter.

I can't see squat anymore and really need to site through the lower portion of my bifocals. You all probably know that that cranks your head back at an uncomfortable angle, and you get fatigued pretty quickly.

Has one here used any of the "top focal" glasses available. My local optician said he can make me a pair of custom lenses with the right side bifocal area at the top (so I can clearly see the front sight), and the left lens with the other portion of my prescription (for seeing down range). He must also be paid quite well if he does... aorund $300.

SSP offer these, but there are others; in the $40-70 range.

ANSI Z87.1 ballistic shooting glasses with top focal magnifier. AST Kit includes interchangeable clear, amber, and smoked anti‑fog lenses for changing light.

I may have to try a pair of those. I use these from Amazon.. I have gotten used to not being able to get the target in sharp focus.
You do not have to be crazy to hang out with me. I'll train you!

I use the SSP shooting glasses and love them. About $36 bucks on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/SSP-Eyewear-I.../dp/B06XB2JGSN

Choose one at about half the strength you would use for reading.

although I suppose there are a few tanks which I owe an apology to for that remark"

I too use the SSP top focal shooting glasses and like them. My only complaint is that the top focal could be a little larger. For me I find that I either have to move them down the bridge of my nose a little bit or move my head sometimes a little bit. However, it is workable.

I am now experimenting with adding Hydrotac lenses to my SSP shooting glasses to get the larger area or positioning I need.

Note: I have also been known to wear my regular glasses under the SSP so I can see to reload magazines.

So, if the OP wants to see what works at a reasonable cost then the above noted work arounds make sense. If the $300 custom glasses price doesn't cause you pause, it might be a good thing depending on your underlying eye sight issues.

I'd considered those as well. Do those stick-on lens STAY stuck on okay? Are they easily removable? I was thinking of sticking one on the right side of my prescription reading glasses, and removing it when not needed.

Alternately, my "far distance" prescription in about 1.75 so I was thinking of a pair of 1.75 cheater with 2.00-2.25 Hydrotac on my right side (roughly my bifocal strength).

Choose one at about half the strength you would use for reading.
I read that on the SSP website, but I'm not sure I understand why. I know the prescription strength I need to clearly see my front sight.

Those Hydrotac lenses work pretty well. I put one on my left lens only so I can read the scope turret for dialing yardage.

For pistol shooting though, just buy two identical pair of readers at the two powers you need and then swap one lens. Way cheaper than having the optician do effectively the same thing, plus, no bifocal.

I have been using the Hydrotacs for 3 months and so far they seem to be holding well. They are removeable but personally do not see the need to do so and I would not do the reinstalls in the field.

I do and just started a search for a "shooting" solution. Most of the online b"sporting" glasses seem to be running around 300 bucks so you Rx-Guy is in the ball park

If you know the prescription to see your front sight then use that. Typically that is about half the strength people use for READING because the front sight is farther away then the page of a book while reading.

Don’t know your prescription? Need to figure out strength for top focal or Hydrotac? Go to anywhere that sells cheater glasses. Try on several pairs holding a pencil or other object at approximate front sight distance. When you can see it clearly then note the magnifications number and you are good to go. (Note: I think some sellers recommend one number bigger??? You can check SSP instructions on this. )
