CMP Service Grade M1 feeding/ejecting

Bought a Service Grade M1 from the CMP. Looks great but I'm having a couple issues. it's clean, and greased up, but it failed to feed fairly regularly. and it also ejected/stove piped on a live round a few times.

Firing Creedmore m1 garand ammo I got from the CMP. Using Enbloc clips I bought from the CMP.


Less important: Any resources on how to sight the thing in?

First need to try USGI enblocs, commercial ones do cause issues. Report back. You sight a garand in the same way other rifles are sighted

How to sight in.
Fire 3 shots at the same spot on the target. Adjust. Fire 3 shots at same spot on target. Adjust. Rinse and repeat until you hit the sweet spot.

If you are using en blocs from the CMP and still having feeding problems, I would suggest changing the recoil spring/op rod spring. At the very least, measure the length of the one in the gun. It shouldn't be any shorter than 19 1/2".
Get a new one from Orion.

Mil-spec clips are the only way to go for gag free function. That has been mentioned.
Make sure the gas system has been properly cleaned. Detail all the lube points on the rifle,

A quick & dirty "battle zero" may be obtained by zeroing 1.25" up from the point of aim (for .30-'06) at 25 yards. This zero should allow hits on man-sized targets form 0 to 400 yards.

As far as sighting, I set a target up at 25 yards. And shot cositent groups about 3 inches low. Couldn’t get it to come up.

Figured out the drum was lose. Tightened, and then couldn’t hit anything anywhere... so will have to have a go at it with more ammo

Forget the markings. Bottom out the aperture then raise 8 clicks and fire at 25 yds, you should be on paper, adjust rear sight to zero. Then fire at 100 yds, if zeroed at 25 you will be on paper at 100. Once fired at 100 adjust to zero.
A lot of your problem may be the targets you are using. Print these off and use 6 oclock hold.

Do not set front handguard on a rest, this will throw off your groups as bottom of handguard is open and op rod will rub on bag

I felt kinda bad for the old girl, I took my bring back Mauser and it drives tacks. Basically if you can see it, you can hit it with that thing. Can’t have the bad guys winning.

May want to also consider getting a gas plug from Garland Gear... they work great.

Definitely check the op rod spring for length and wear.

Be sure you follow the process for lubrication, and I really like using the original GI grease. I got several pots off of eBay several years ago, and a little goes a long way.

8-12 clicks up from bottom should get you on paper. Sight in at 25 yds(military uses 1000", or 27.7 yds). That should give you battle zero range, which is 300 yds. Not 250 yds as some sources, including some military manuals, state. The old original lock bar sights actually had a small triangle stamped into the knob to mark "Battle Zero". Once set on Battle Zero, one should be able to hit a target(a kneeling man), when holding center of mass, out to about 400 yds.
Loosen the screw and turn the knob to 300 yds(hash mark between the 2 & 4 on the knob). Tighten the screw, then turn the knob to the 1st hash mark(100 yds) and fine tune at 100 yds.
Military teaches a "6" o'clock hold on the bull for center of bull hits. So, there will often be some differences in the number of clicks to zero depending on how the rifle is sighted in.
