If the amo is in the same bag but not in the locked case with the gun would that be legal? Or would need to be in a separate container or bag?

Basically I have a large duffle bag on the back of the bike and a handle bar bag (about big enough for a six pack for reference).. both could be locked with travel padlocks .That’s about the existent of the storage options.
not meaning to get off the subject but what year shuv?
Now back on topic, I have no bags (except the RK), when on the shovel, I packed a .380, both in same bag and one lock, the tool bag had separate pockets. I used a lock with four numbers 1 through 9 on the dials, I had 3 numbers dialed in and only clicked one number for a fast open, but since I got a ccw permit no issues about locking up

Locked container could be a nylon or canvas pistol case with locked zipper.

I want a pan, bunch of my friends got them before the prices exploded. but I’d have to sell everything I own to buy one. Much less a knucklehead.

I wish I had a chase truck. Usually it’s just me headed out to where ever my friends are camping.

No need to call names. I’m not looking for a legal defense for court. I’m looking to avoid that part by not getting hassled by the cops in the first place.

Then you should drive the truck to the camping trip, not the old chopper

It seems like the shovel is what everyone is using these days to build choppers. It's just too much $$$ to do knuckles and panheads anymore. I prefer an evo, especially over the stupid hybrid engine I'm running now

Enjoy your trip........... if I was 20 years younger

76 Shovehead. Purchased in 1977, still have it.

Rio Hondo is teaching POST candidates that ammo must be transported outside the locked container.

                      The FUD will continue.

Yes, you can have ammo in the same container as the gun, but that was something left out, what he wrote was "but not in the case with the gun would also be legal".

Now not every cop knows about Clark vs California, especially old timers who follow Federal law which says guns and ammo have to be in separate containers.
To avoid a possible hassle many do not keep ammo in the same case as the gun.
(The Clark case resulted in ammo in case with gun is not a "loaded weapon", it is legal to transport this way).

FUD is Fear, Uncertainty and Despair, I don't think that Erlc's reply rises to that level.

I grew up in the hippy chopper era and always thought I'd build one. For now I'm enjoying my adventure bike which is a lot better for getting to remote camping spots!

Guns for moto camping need to be light weight and compact. The Glock 19 does just fine in this role.
