    $100 class + $25 for the HSC.

Really, it appears as if they are offering a Handgun 101 class. If you aren't familiar with firearms, it might be the way to go. It's seems like a great way to bring in novice shooters.

On the other hand, if they won't let you take the HSC test without the class, then they are being dishonest.

I dunno, it looks like a good class for a non-shooter to take. You know, someone who has never had any practical expierience with a hand gun and only knows what he/she saw in the movies. Sure, anyone can read the booklet and pass the test for $25, but for $100 more you get 10 hours of training with an instructor both in the classroom and on the range. great for newbie shooters, IMO.

But yes, they do make it kinda sound like you HAVE to take this class to own a gun when it's really just the test you have to pass.

I should have added the font, the first two lines are in large bold print. At first glance its makes it seem that to get a handgun you need the class.

I completely recommend training at all levels, but to push a class as a state requirement, thats what got me.

            HANDGUN SAFETY CERTIFICATE PROGRAM

REQUIRED BY CA DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE

If you are interested in purchasing a handgun, this is the class you need. It is set for Sat., April 18, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Class is $125, which includes your DOJ certificate upon passing a written test on handgun safety and proper demonstration of a handgun. Handguns are available at the class or you can bring your own.

The course teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for owning and operating a pistol safely. This course is at least 10-hours long
Hope they are better at firearms safety than math.

If "con" is the opposite of "pro" then is congress the opposite of progress?

Maybe if someone is a newb and know absolutely nothing about California gun law they might get confused and feel that this class is a requirement.

This is what is called "Deceptive Advertising". The statements in bold inicate that the CA DOJ requires you to take a class. This is not the truth. You can take the course just walking in off the street.

For someone who is not saavy with the legal requirement to purchase a handgun, this ad say "You have to take this course to buy a gun."

                      Yes, it is deceiving.

The "Program" iss not required by the DOJ, just the certificate is. The way that they word it, it implies that a course is required.
