Those who don't know what that is, on Ebay, you can put in a price slightly higher than everyone else who hadn't put in a maximum price and get it at the last second.

If someone has a maximum price the system would automatically bid up to match so it's still a gamble.

But it is funny that a gun auction site doesn't have a "sniping" feature.

I guess it does help out the seller ,to maximize their sale price.

Sniping is the main reason Ebay sucks for selling items. This practice keeps your item price artificially low since everyone is waiting to the last second to out snipe the next guy.

It's called an online auction, so why wouldn't the eBay auction keep accepting bids until the offers dry up?!

It definitely makes for a more relaxing buying experience. You can just put your max bid in at any time and know if you get outbid, you have plenty of time to bid again if you want. I've lost a few items on ebay due to bid sniping and it's mostly irritating, but it's fair game so it is what it is.

I like that 15min rule.
Some items end at odd times or days...east coast.
I do not live on computer and work normal work hours.
Bid, forget, win or loose.
Bidding for the rush is not why I do it.
To many get caught up in winning the item.
Just ask my wife.
The buy now is good option.

When I sell or buy I either do the Buy Now option or Best Offer. I guess that's why we have retail stores instead of a bunch of auction houses. Ha ha

It also protects the buyers from fraud. I've just about never do bids on Ebay anymore because the last few times, I've had my bids raised and beaten by low or no history bidders and then the seller would inevitably come back and offer me the item because the other bidder "flaked." I never take those offers.

Nowadays, I'll only use buy it now and almost always, I find better prices just about anywhere else. Some of those Ebay sellers are in fantasyland with their pricing.

Its actually better for the seller with that auction format...clock restarts at the 15 minute mark.
All auctions should be this way.

That's what makes sniping so insidious... You set your max at say $10.00 and the sniping software takes the sale at $10.05...

the ghost/shill bidders on ebay are what bothers me, and the format encourages it. If your current bid is $20 but your max is $50, the seller has a fake account snipe you, and they can bid $1000 so that it will force your auto-bid to its max. You "lose" but the seller will come back and offer you - at your max bid, because the other seller didn't pay (because they weren't real). I almost never bid on actual auctions, buy-it-now for me. And when I do bid, I usually only put a couple dollars more than the min, hoping to catch a deal, but don't care if I actually win.
