Shipping a firearm overnight/gunsmithing

I want to ship my sig 239 to Gayguns for custom work which will cost about $300.00. Fedex and UPS want approximately $130.00 to ship the firearm.
If I use an FFL, is there a significant savings? I know they don't have to ship overnight and they can use the US post office. Also is there a gunsmith in the southern ca area that works on performing action jobs on sigs?

IIRC, it was about half of what UPS/FedEx wanted for overnight when I last used it.

I recently paid over $140 to ship a pistol via UPS overnight for some custom work. I also insured it for $2,500. I figured since it will go through less hands, there's less chance it would be lost or stolen.

I've had to do the same.....if it's an expensive weapon, the shipping co$t is a small fraction. Some time ago, there was some good info published by CRPA on packaging tips that were actually written by a UPS employee regarding shipping firearms specifically to help avoid theft. As I recall, use a large box, address labels on ALL sides of box, wrap very securely, etc. Lastly, I always ship out on a Monday, as to avoid a weekend of the package sitting in some facility.

Shipped a pistol back to manufacturer for warranty work and UPS made me ship overnight. UPS ended up taking 2 days to get it there so I took my receipt in and they refunded me the fee.....a little over $100!! So keep track of the delivery and make sure they deliver it overnight.

I had the same thing happen to me and I got a refund. As for UPS,THEIR
policy IS overnite,despite what you are seeing on here.
