    US Military EXACTO Weapon Program

Hope this hasnt been posted yet.

"The new .50 caliber gun and improved scope could employ "fire and forget" technologies including "fin-stabilized projectiles, spin-stabilized projectiles, internal and/or external aero-actuation control methods, projectile guidance technologies, tamper proofing, small stable power supplies, and advanced sighting, optical resolution and clarity technologies."

A 50-cal guided bullet is simply a pipe dream at this point in time. Technology needs another 10-15 years of development before it could happen. That's what DARPA is for, I guess. Keep the contractors busy chasing pipe dreams.

The Army (which is a little slow) will eventually come to the same conclusion that the Navy has: You can make guided weapons pretty small these days, but it's going to be about 4-5 times bigger than a .50 BMG cartridge and it sure as heck won't be shot out of a rifle.

reminds me of what chris rock said about gun control
"if a bullet cost $5000 there would be no more innocent bystandards"
"whoever shot you would take their bullet back!"
