    Marketplace rant

I have a WTB posted here on Calguns.

I have so far been in touch with 3 people:

    1) Western union scammer

    2) Semi local guy who says gun is LNIB but pictures show otherwise, finish wear on edges etc. Guy says it's just the lighting on the pic but is unable to send more pics to prove it.

    3) Guy wants a USPS money order to a PO box.

I think I'm gonna take my post down and just keep being happy with what I already have.

That happened to me too, plus the guy was asking for a $200 deposit just so we could meet up! at an FFL that was out of business long time ago, I knew that because I did my homework on the meeting place!

#2 could be true. That happens often with lighting. Clearly shows scratches, but it's only lighting.

I have had all good luck with every buyer I have dealt with. The lackluster sellers never made it past private message number 2
From myself I want to thank CG!

Think about any Marketplace on the web.

Of most of those what percentage are going to just be scammers?

I'm Not telling you to leave your add up if the replies bother you ( I mean I'm not running an ad looking for inexpensive handguns even though I would like some and I know they're out there.) but the same could be said about why people don't buy things on Craigslist or other such sites.

It's a given that it's going to be a bit of a hassle and unless you're getting a great deal dealing with all the bad, iit sn't always worth it.

You are in the Handgun Forum, so I assume you are talking about a handgun. Unless you are an FFL Dealer you have to FTF anyway, so why would you even consider sending any money to someone? This post is not passing the smell test to me, but then I always was a cynic.

Why don't you buy a new inox while they're on sale at Turner's?

I have done a couple of transactions from posting a WTB ad. Just post that you want to do face to face. If you want a hard to find gun expect to either travel to the gun, pay the buyer for gas, or have cash in hand ready when you see a WTS ad in your area and you might have to overpay a bit. I have gone past Bakersfield to transfer a 1911 I wanted which is a far drive from the Bay Area.

Pictures can show one thing, let the seller know you want to take a look at the item face to face. Usually if it's a higher price item most people don't have a problem meeting up if you are actually serious about buying.

I’ve only had one experience like that here and I’ve had a lot of transactions. Reported it and their account was deleted. I don’t think I’ve ever posted a single thing on Armslist without getting multiple scam attempts.

Had a deal in place. Price negotiated. Date, time, and location set. Guys pulls out saying he wants to sell it for more money elsewhere.

The only time I had any scammers here was from a WTB add. If you really WTB you’ll ride it out and be glad you did in the end. If anything it makes for some great campfire beer drinkin stories. Here’s a starter, I had an add on Craig’s list a couple weeks back. A guy came and gave me half the cash up front for what I was selling. Seemed like a nice guy, cattle farmer and offered to pay the rest in beef. Well he never came back and I now cannot get ahold of him. Just weird cause it’s a decent amount of money and not sure why he doesn’t respond. You get all kinds of weird stuff buying and selling. I have met some really nice guys here though through the market place don’t give up.
