I am wanting to purchase a competition handgun but it comes with a threaded barrel. I know that you cannot have a threaded barrel installed on a handgun but could the dealer just remove the barrel from the handgun, separated but shipped with the handgun?

If the handgun has a threaded barrel. Most likely it is not on the CA roster.Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.

My first question would be is the handgun you are looking to buy currently on the handgun roster? If it comes with a threaded barrel, I'm betting the chances are it is not.
If it IS on the roster or you are buying private party off-roster, you may have a hard time finding an FFL willing to remove the barrel and complete the transfer.
I am not a lawyer, but I do not believe there are any constructive possession issues in that case. Though you would probably want to have a non threaded barrel installed.Comment

Have the barrel and slide ship to you no restrictions on that. Find ffl to dros frameComment

Personally, I would talk to the guy you buying it from and ask if it could be shipped separately to avoid any headaches. If they are unwilling to ship separately, You may want to check with your FFL too make sure they are comfortable receiving and transferring the firearm. Even if it is legal, the FFL may not be comfortable with the situation.Comment

Send a barrel to audiophile and have him legalize and send to ca ffl. He can send threaded barrel to you in an envelope.Comment
