Are there differences in quality of machining of Romy G kits from different decades? 1960's vs. 1970's vs. 1980's?

From my experience, yes. The kits newer than about 1980 don't seem to have the same quality of workmanship that exists in the older rifles/kits.Dom

I've seen some 80's model G's with some really nice finishing on the metalwork. Most Romys from that decade appear a little rough on the exterior, but some nice ones do pop up occasionally.Comment

It's been my experience that the best Eastern Bloc firearms come from what were the most dedicated and highly spirited commie nations.
That said, Rumania was a grim and miserable totalitarian basket case of a maximum security prison where the only protest that the people could get away with was sabotage of machinery. Remember that when you're touching off a round with 50,000 psi of pressure next to your face in a hackjob rifle made from a demilled Romanian parts kit.Comment

I understand the earlier kits are better...that hasn't stopped me from buying a 1983 stamped kit....heck an AK with my birth year all over it
