Are ported barrels legal on pistols? Maybe an extended barrel with comp ports are a cheaper alternative. I never cared to comp a pistol so i haven't looked too deep. -
Ported barrels are fine.
Extended barrels are fine.
You could even pin a compensator on to an extended barrel.
Only threaded barrels are a problem.
You can use a threaded barrel as long as you permanent attach something over the threads so that the threads are not able to be used to affix a flash suppressor or a sound suppressor.Randall Rausch

Possession of a threaded barrel is also fine as long as it is never installed in the pistol.
If you wish to install it, do what ar15barrels said and have it permanently fixed.
If you go that route, get a new slide, new threaded barrel and brake. It will allow you to set it back to stock with out needing to have a smith drill out the weld and pin in the aftermarket set upComment

Those are the only 2 I know of, and I haven't heard good things about HEC. People seem to like Ric though. Otherwise, EFK has extended ported barrels that are pretty nice.Comment
