Response from NZ elder friend on NZ Semi-auto ban.

A related thread from "The General gun discussion" on the NZ incident.

Below is the entire email I received from an elder friend living on the North Island, in New Zealand.

I ask what the general consensus regarding the semi-auto arms ban and if there might be a possible by back program. I did not engage on anything relating to Muslims or the shooter.

I post this so that we may hear what someone that lives there has to say. I respect his reply and recognize that there is a large cultural difference.

Please keep name calling out of any reply's / posts. That will be appreciated.

Thank you for sharing. They definitely have a different view of things. It points to the fallacy of making a decision like this based purely on emotion, as has been tried here so many times by our left.

Sorry not on the level of 9/11. Not that it should have happened period. They thing they will find is that they readily accepted Censorship and restrictions on firearms. Nothing that will stop future terrorist attacks from anyone or any group.

How? Nothing in the post addresses emotion-based policymaking. There is nothing in that post to establish a logical fallacy.

          From the OP's friend's email:

however I believe that moderate muslims would help their course if they would express outrage at the Christians who are killed around the world on a daily basis for their faith. Maybe I’m missing it, but I don’t hear anything from them

We will never see them express "outrage" at the killing of the infidel. And therein lies one of the biggest red flags that should be alerting people to all mo0se limb snackbars' true intent.

NZ has a population of less than 5 million, so couldn't it be argued that, proportionally, it is on the level of 9/11?

"I should add that there was/is a huge emotional response to this shooting here and surprisingly around the world."

It's in the first paragraph. Are you implying the gun ban is NOT emotional? can you please elaborate?

ETA: I could have been more clear, I am implying that the gun ban is based on emotion, not logic. That is the decision I am talking about.

DENIAL. This is an incredibly beautiful country that would be speaking Japanese if not for young men from America with a second amendment. So he seems reasonable but you can't blame him for refusing to face the fact that his luck will end if the group hug mentality takes over America. America should get more civilized "ok start learning Chinese mate."

Although your friend sounds like they speak from the heart, I find it appalling that they would be so ready for a gun buyback scenario. All it is, is a reason to collect more taxes and for politicians to skim off the top, all the while looking as if they care about the public safety.

                  Socialized political BS.
I dreamed of owning a (insert off roster gun here)...

Oh yeah....then the earth splits open with me on one side and the (off roster gun) on the other. Then appeared a large red-glowing pit with gavin newscum, diane frankenstein and governor "brown the drain" at the bottom of it, waving their pitchforks at me.

No I am not stating that it is not emotional.

Ok, that's your opinion, which may be correct, but no logical fallacy was established in the quoted message. Their ban may well indeed be based on a logical fallacy, and it may not be, we don't have that in front of us to determine.

FWIW I also suspect their actions are a knee-jerk emotional response, and in my opinion such bans are bad ideas.

On a possible buy back I think that many law abiding people would comply but of course the criminals would not.

And the once law abiding subjects who will soon to be considered criminals that are created by the new ban.

It sure looks that way from everything I've heard and read thus far.

And as the OP's NZ friend indicated in his message, the people most likely to turn their guns in are the law abiding ones. The criminals will keep theirs.

These types of laws seem destine to result in leaving these guns only in the hands of military, LE, and criminals.

What happens when the next nut job in NZ makes a video while killing folks with an M1A or an M1 Garand with stripper clips...

Can you imagine if Trump or our government in general made this statement: "The United States will no longer provide military assistance to countries that disarm their own population. If you remove your citizens ability to fight for their own country, we will not send our citizens to do it for you."

I understand the sentiment but lets get real. How many of ANY group want to stick their head up when someone from that group does something nutty?

Every time there is a mass shooting, the FARTHEST THING FROM MY MIND is the idea to raise my hand and say "I own an AR15 and I condemn what this fruitcake did with HIS AR15."

I have my concerns over immigration and assimilation and all that, but I certainly do not expect or believe that every muslim in this country is silently enjoying it whenever there is a terrorist incident somewhere in the world.
