Shipping rifle back to factory - FFL or Fedex/UPS?

[Apologizes, I know this question has been asked before. Due to the ever changing laws I want to make sure my information is accurate.]

I have a .308 rifle that I need to ship back to the factory for repair. My understanding is I can take it to Fedex/UPS/USPS to do this without going through a FFL.

Is this accurate? Anything else I should consider before I ship?

I live in the heart of LA and I'm paranoid walking into a UPS store and the clerk not knowing what to do.

    Thanks for any advice.

UPS and FedEx stores normally will not ship firearms and require that you go to a main hub for shipping. I usually use my local post office for long guns and have not had any problems. You do not need to use a FFL and the rifle can be shipped directly back to you.

I used my FFL because I wasn't going to home from work for the adult signature. And that was with handgun which is far more regulated for travel. If someone will be home to sign for it, ots no problem.

Depends on your fed ex or post office as well as the manufacturer. I called Ruger to have it sent back and they said I had to dealer it becuase it’s an AW which it is not. Even told them all it had was the original wood stock. Still a no go

I have sent rifles USPS Priority mail without problems. Wish I could say the same for Fed-up-X or UPS.
AS far a signature you can get that with USPS and when I had it with the other two they just left the package at my door anyway.

UPS usedcto have a requirement that one of the partiesc (shipper or recipient) have a current FFL. I got checked on this at a UPS hub once. I had copies of my 03 as well as the recipient's 03 so was gtg.

Don't know if it's still in effect.

I use UPS hub. they will ask if you have FFL (sometimes). just say no and the firearm is being returned to mfg for warranty repair.

the bad is that they send it back to your house.

add insurance to the full value.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

Try and get the manufacturer to send you a shipping label. Put it in a non-descript box, tape it up really good, affix label and drop off at FedEx hub. Make sure to put a letter inside with your contact information just in case something happens to the label.

Use an actual real live UPS or FedEx facility, not a storefront.

I've had better service with Fedex shipping firearms, but it probably is dependent on your local Fedex or UPS hub.
