    Gun safe or cabinet

Thinking about getting a Stack-on cabinet for the cabin , anti drill lock ...etc...is this good for meeting Ca. law on gun safe's requirement ?

    thanks in advance.

Look to what will meet CA requirements next year...there is a new bill pending that devices will have to be DOJ approved. I’d say the safe

If you want to meet the letter of the law, follow this:

"A gun safe that is able to fully contain firearms and provide for their secure storage, and is certified to/listed as meeting Underwriters Laboratories Residential Security Container rating standards by a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL)."

The RSC rating is pretty easy to get.

That said...is this for a weapon you're leaving unattended? And do you care if it's stolen? Because any RSC (or even higher-rated safes) won't withstand lots of effort if the bad guy gets to do so in peace and quiet. You also really need to bolt the safe to a good concrete floor to be effective; if it can be moved and manipulated, it's easy pickings for the bad guys too. Usually.

Personally, I'd look into ways to effectively conceal the rifle in a secure fashion. Under the floor-boards maybe? Inside a fake pipe from the fireplace?

Just looking for something to store a long gun in while there...not long term only when staying there.....just when out fishing or on a hike ...

I was asked the last time i bought a Firearm if i had a safe. I told them, unless you count a whole room with a steel door no windows and a motion detector counts as a safe .....They had a good laugh..
