    115gr vs 147gr in 9mm

As if the 9mm vs 45 debate isn't hot enough, now I see the 115 vs 147 in my corner. I have seen one manufacturer recommend 147gr for guaranteed cycling (I think) but other than that I cannot recall one being recommended over the other. I see notes about +P ammo not being recommended for some guns, the 115/145 is basically not there. Unless stated, is it a personal preference?

It'll be for my Beretta 92FS and I would prefer to get one good ammo and stick with it.

The 115 has more recoil than the 147 imo...only difference to me, I've shot 1000's of both

Shoot a box of 115s, a box of 124s, and a box of 147s, and see which you prefer. Factor in cost and availability and then decide. I prefer 124s for general shooting, but use 147s for self-defense and action pistol competition. For me, the only thing 115s have going for them is price and availability. Reloading your own ammo eliminates the price and availability concerns of 124s and 147s if you end up preferring those.

There are two camps, heavy and slow vs light and fast. Some swear it's all about the weight, others it's about the velocity, when it comes to dispatching the bad guys. For me, it doesn't matter as long as I can hit my target and my gun functions reliably.

I have been shooting 115gr 9mm for over 30 years now in over a dozen different pistols, never had a problem.

I know a lot of IDPA competitors who prefer 9mm 147 gr, claiming it shoots softer. I am not sure I can tell. I usually shoot WW 9mm 115 gr for training and local competitions.

I know that the LA Sheriffs duty ammo is 147gr Federal FST as they feel it has better penetration than the lighter rounds.

When you add an RMR to a Glock they run better with 147 and or high quality Ammo.

Perfecta is crazy low power and barely runs in a stock G17.
147 has a longer slower impulse than 115 grain. 115 is snappier.

WWB 9mm in 115 gr's seem to be a weak load to me, sometimes I get 3-5 rounds that does not cycle in a box of 50 and regularly does not lock slide open on last round in my Sigs (stock P320's).
                  YMMV.

If your Beretta is anything like my 92AF, it should eat anything..
Lately, 115g costs the same as 124g and 147g is a tad more expensive.
My other 9 mils are not picky.
I shoot factory 115g and 124g. No big difference to my reckoning.

Have fun. The 92 is an accurate pistol!
Look for mosin virus YouTube vids on that pistol.

My Berettas eat anything and everything. They don't care what you feed them, they just want more.

I primarily use 115 because its cheap and abundant. Runs just fine.

115 felt snappier, but very negligible.

I don't reload 9mm, so I try different bullet weights from various manufacturers, looking for the load that works the best with the gun I have in hand. I pick a bullet weight, buy as many brands as I can, and head to the range.

Over the years, I've found my SP-01 loves Blazer Brass 115 gr.; the P-01 does best with American Eagle 124 gr.; the P88 Compact likes PMC 124 gr..

Ever since I found the "right load" for each gun, I have been laying in copious amounts of ammunition for each one.
