The gun lock and PPTs

I can't comment on the law, but I grabbed the lock from a friend's glock, and brought it in to pick up my PPT....no issues. In February 2019

California requires a lock on the list sold within the last 30 days or a safe affidavit, but the safe affidavit does not satisfy the federal law of a lock with handgun purchases. Just return the lock and get your money back, that's what many people do.

As to the $45 charge, if it was for a PPT then they padded the bill beyond what the law allows them to.

Reguardless of the law, just realize it is going to vary wildly from store to store. Hell, i did 2 pistol PPTs at the same store 3 days apart last month, one employee accepted the lock that came with the gun, the other stated "Locks can't be transfered, I have to sell you a new one every time!" Out of 10 pistol PPTs in the last few years, I've only had to buy 2 locks. Go figure

Prior to a PPT, buy a gun lock from Walmart or Big 5, ask for a gift receipt.

Submit receipt and gun lock during time of transfer.

After pickup, return gun lock to place of purchase using either original or gift receipt (if original is not returned).

Starting in Jan this year, my go-to PPT shop in Livermore started requiring receipts for gun locks from the last 30 days for both handgun and rifle transfers. I'd rather spend the $8 at their shop on ammo/accessories I actually need.
