NRA Shutdown?

I get this letter today from Wayne LaPierre from NRA that says they are dangerously close to closing their doors FOR GOOD due to a recent attack by NY Governor Andrew Cuomo's on the the lending institutions doing business with the NRA.
I'm sure this was a mass mailer that was sent to every member. I don't know if this letter is just a marketing effort to raise more funds or if it's for real. The 4 page letter sounds pretty scary until it gets to the part that he asks for donations. I hope I'm wrong thinking that they are resorting to this type of thing to just raise money but if it's for real, us gun owners should start worrying what's next. This could be the start of a very serious move on the part of our government.
Anyone out there know anything about this??

I have not received any notice/letter from the NRA yet. When I joined years ago I opted out of their "messages/ads/etc." so may not get anything.

I would think it more the lending institutions rather than the government per se. Yes, I know politicians do influence.

No... marketing ploy. This actually got pitched some time in October last year.

Being an NRA member, when I first heard of this, I called a contact within Virginia I know with upper echelon of the NRA, and it was confirmed that the NRA has no worries or concerns of ever going belly-up at the behest of Cuomo, New York, Bloomberg, Soros, Newsom, or anyone else for that matter. This was a shock-value promotion in conjunction with free-speech, however, no, there is no concern .

However, if you've read the latest, there is actually a lawsuit brewing against Cuomo at the support of the ACLU (of all groups) maligning Cuomo for his fascist attempts to vilify and stigmatize vendors and other entities for having legal association with the NRA.

He will lose, and the NRA will actually benefit from all of it, maybe even gain some funding!

I am a NRA life member. I would not be surprised if such a letter was mailed out. I have not received one.

No matter what organization you belong to, I have learned that scare tactic mailers do work to get some people to donate. This is one thing I do not agree with the NRA, their constant fundraising letters and calls, even after I have opted out. I donate when I can or wish to.

This goes with any organization I have ever been a part of so I just ignore it.

I doubt the NRA will disappear forever. They may have to move out of NY to find a less hostile banking environment. I am sure there are many banks that would welcome their money, that is a lot of profit to ignore just for political correctness.

Any bank that will provide services to the NRA will also get a lot of business from their members and supporters.

What Cuomo is doing is wrong, but you cannot poke the bear and not expect a response. The NRA is good at what it does because it will poke the bear. I do hope this provides an opportunity for the courts to again slam NY.

I received the letter today. ILA fund raiser, the left is unhinged but I would bet the NRA will be around after the DNC is gone.

We should not take the threat from the Gov. so lightly. About 5 years ago I was buying a pistol and chatting with the owner who told me that his bank was dropping all business with him because he was depositing too much cash. AG Holder silently put the screw to the banks in order to force FFLs out of business. Operation Choke Hold. It is still alive and kicking.

I have no idea how they picked who gets the letter. The wife and I are both life members. She got one I did not. It’s for fund raising.

Seems to me, that even if it is a "fund raiser", the NRA still needs a bank, or other financial institution.

If you raise the funds, you still need a depository and a way to disburse said funds.

I'm now convinced that it is just a scare tactic way of squeezing more money out of members and it POs me that they resort to this kind of thing. There is no mention of close down on their website and other than the usual attacks on the NRA, I can't find any stories that indicate they are ready to close their doors. I understand that they need money to continue the fight to protect the 2nd Amendment but there are ways to campaign for funds and still maintain integrity and honesty. Is this just another "fake" news story to raise money?
