Dunk kit from Cylinder&Slide, anyone use it?

I tried one about 15 years ago. Worked fine but not enough of an improvement to re-fill it once it ran low. It was best for swishing Ruger rimfire actions around in .

Have you considered a cheap ultrasonic cleaner from amazon and ultrasonic concentrated cleaner from Hornady or a few other companies and a water displacement 'lube' also?

I have a 'vevor' I forgot- 180 watt? about $130-140 on amazon.


I also have 'hornady' one shot ultrasonic cleaner concentrate which I reuse several times... but it's only an ounce or 2 per gal of water anyway...

Then finish with "Lyman" turbo sonic water displacement/lube which is reusable as well.

There are other brands.. I was planning on using the same brand cleaner and lube, but no one had both in stock at the time.... so one Hornady and one lyman product is what I got....

This setup is large enough for 2 full size handguns that are field stripped, but it's better to take them farther down.

It works very well but does take time. That lube stinks and takes about 2 days to fully dry. It's mostly naptha to displace the water, and whatever chemical dry lube/rust preventative they add.

Be aware that ultrasonic can and will damage aluminum however. Don't put aluminum frames in it. Or for not very long.

When I'm done with the ultra, there are only a few spots I need to rub carbon off of, and it comes off easily. Breech face, and 1911's where the barrel rear sits on the frame behind the link, the frame needs to be lightly rubbed/scrubbed... most everything else is gone.

I heat my solution to about 160-180 degrees and run it for about 8-10 minutes at a time about 3 times.

Then rinse the solution off with hot water- use air compressor to blow out water from the parts.

Rinse out the machine, add the lube and run it with the parts for 10 minutes in the lube.

Let the parts air dry until they stop stinking.... then oil/grease and assemble.

In both the cleaner and the lube... you see the "gunk" fall to the bottom. Reusing it is not a big deal, and the lube, you're supposed to reuse until it gets really dirty or too much water- which you see at the bottom since naptha is lighter than water....

In my ultra I let the gunk settle on the bottom for a day or two...Then i fold up a paper towel into a square and carefully wipe the goo off the bottom.. Works well if you go slow over half the bottom,,, refold towel and do the other half bottom...

It works. Its a good way to soak out old grease and dirt/lead/copper
I've heard stories of guys using it for long term storage of pistols with no ill effects. Guns stay lubed and rust free.

You don't strip anything beyond removing grips, if necessary. On a Glock all you do is lock the slide back and drop it in.
