    Securing a gun safe.

Well, i'm getting a 570lb winchester gun safe from costco and want to secure it semi permanently in a garage on a concrete slab. The garage has wood walls with pegboard all the way around it, and you can partially see inside through the garage door. I am going to put it in the most inconspicuous spot possible which shouldn't be visible from the garage door but its easy enough to kick the side door in, or pry into the garage door if you really wanted. My main question is how does one secure a safe to a concrete floor and be able to pick it up later on if you move?? I would like it out of the house and in the garage so I don't have to have the wife see whats going in and out of it and so I don't have to drill in my home's flooring either. Any ideas will help

First of all, does cotsco have them in stock already cause I am interested in one. You can buy screws for concrete. Also it can be screwed to the wall.

Concrete anchors either wedge or drop- ins. 4-6, 3/8"-1/2" should be fine.

It should come with achors for concrete. A hammer drill will do you wonders.
        Insert something clever here.

can someone with a truck pull in your driveway and yank that safe with a tow package ? always wonder if the garage is the safest place for a safe, I would put it on the second floor.

I bolted mine to the concrete floor in my garage. Hammer drill and some anchors and its good to go. I keep a heavy sheet over it and it's next to the washer/dryer. No one would even know it was there.

Just bolt in down using the supplies bolts, through the holes in the base of the safe. Hammer drill, as mentioned will work wonders

By the way, if you are bolting it, even in part, to the wall, make sure to secure it to studs, not drywall. If you want to make it easy, attach some 1"+ thick planks (about a foot by 2-3 feet) across a couple studs so you can blindly drill into it from inside the safe.

yes they can. but its going to cause alot of attention. and make alot of noise.

so unless your in the boonies where no one will hear it you should be fine.

No safe is going to keep a determined criminal from getting your possessions with the right tools/knowledge and some time.

Its just slowing them down and making nearly impossible to do it without creating attention.

Yup... my safe in the garage has a car parked right in front of it too... so its against a wall, drilled to the wall and floor, car parked right up on it, with my garage door shut and a car behind that one.

Is it possible? YES... is it likely? NO..

I built a simple 8' by 4' cabinet around three sides of mine (it's against a wall) . It looks like a regular storage unit, you'd see in a garage until you unlock / open it up. Also make sure you put it in a corner so if the bad guys try and pry on the door, they don't get any leverage. And last but not least, NEVER have it standing open when you have your garage (driveway) door open. Never.

                          Good Luck.

You'd be surprised what modern architecture will hold.

If you're worried about this, make sure that you use at least as long as anchors as the concrete is thick, and use epoxy, although I think this would be the least of your worries, unless you're the only one who lives on your street
