I sold a handgun a while back to a Cal Gunner up north. He sent me a copy of his well-known dealer's FFL and a postal money order. I shipped the gun to his dealer via UPS, insured, along with a copy of my driver's license and FFL license in the package.

For that much money I would pay with some kind of escrow service. When the rifle arrives at your FFL Inwould check for throat erosion (especially if a magnum or fast cartridge, 22-250) and other functional issues before DROSing it.

                  If it's that much $$$$$

Either you make the drive. Or it's the deal you just couldn't make happen.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.

There's no way I'm going send 5 large to purchase a gun without 1st seeing it in person. No way.

                    Good Luck.

Lets put it a different way....Would you spend a substantial amount of money on a performance car and not test drive it first....?????

Even for a $5,000 used Honda I'd travel to check it out...

The buyer has to make two round trips.
If I was the buyer, I would offer a free round trip ticket to meet me at a FFL near the airport closest to me.

OP, where is the seller and where are you located? If you are in LA and the buyer in SF, see if the seller is interested in spending a weekend in the better half of the state via free flight tickets.

Perhaps one if they meet and have a local gunshop ship to buyer's FFL. A few extra bucks and a few extra day's wait to securely complete a high-dollar transaction.
