    M1 Garand Ammo recommendation

I’m gonna order an M1 from the CMP.

Mainly just to plink with and have one. I’ve shot one competition in my life and I didn’t like it (I did ok for the record). So I don’t need expensive match grade ammo.

    Good “Cheap” Garand safe ammo?

Federal makes some specifically for the Garand, as does PPU. I am not sure how cheap it is. You used to be able to order from the CMP and probably still can, if you have a dealer receive it for you. Maybe you can add it to your M-1 order?

I reload, so I don't know what to buy, I do know that you don't want FULL POWER hunting ammo though.

The CMP ammo is pretty damn expensive most of the time. They were offering a half price discount with purchase of Garand, but it was still excessively expensive if you ask me.

I've run a box of wolf through my garand (kill me, I know) and it ran good.

I've run about 300 or so rounds of PPU through my garand and it ran great.

A few times at the range, I was able to get sub-MOA groups at 50 yards with PPU and iron sights. PPU seems to be just great all around.

The wolf ran fine as well. Ejection pattern was as expected and very consistent. Other sites stock it for ~50 cents a round. On TSUSA, the prices are so close the steel isn't worth it, IMO.

Edit: S&B also gets a good rep for garand ammo

Grab an adjustable gas plug and shoot whatever the hell you want out of it as well

If you want to shoot cheap factory ammo get a schuster valve and don't risk damage to your rifle. Or reload.

keep an eye on the ammo trader section of this site...it (lake city or Greek) comes up from time to time.

Years ago, I got a deal on Korean M-2 ball Garand ammo loaded on en-bloc clips in bandoleers. My last purchase of FMJ .30-06 for my Garand was the PPU, and I got several hundred wounds in an ammo can off of the internet before Prop 63 kicked in.

150gn ammo ball. Federal makes some specific for the M1 garand.

                    PPU M1 load .65 cents/rd

Get some PPU M1 loads from TSUSA. About as good a deal as you'll find nowadays. Last time I bought ammo from CMP was at least 3 years ago when they had the spam cans of bandoliers for .50/rd. Ammo from CMP is cost prohibitive, really expensive.

Get a ported gas plug from garandgear and leave the adjustable plugs alone.
The Ported Gas Plug™ has an open area in the base of the screw that increases the starting volume of the gas cylinder. This causes the peak gas pressures in the gas cylinder to drop by over 30%.

If your semi-local to Victorville area, I've got about 450 rounds of surplus I could be convinced to get rid of.
