I have traditionally used Howard Leight Impact Sports, usually but not always doubling up with Howard Leight 33 NRR earplugs. After a few hours of shooting, I usually have a mild but annoying headache. I'm not really somebody who gets headaches often or easily, and I remembered that when I started shooting regularly, I just used earplugs and didn't get those headaches. So my last time at the range, I just used earplugs, and no headaches. Still got all the hearing protection needed. That being said, I like the voice amplification of electronic ear protection. Anybody else have this problem? Any solutions? I saw this product: https://noisefighters.com/products/sightlines1 Anybody tried it?

Earmuffs and headaches
In case it wasn't obvious, nothing I write here should be interpreted as legal advice.Tags: None -
Try looking at the Behind the neck styles of electronic protection.
I use regular over the head but as you mentioned do get a headache sometimes.
I switch to behind the neck and have no more headaches.
I alternate between the two and I find both have their advantages and disadvantages.
YMMV.. -
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.

These disposable earplugs are rated at 32dB.
I wear 310 Clark's; 20dB rated behind the head. Over the head rated at 24dB, but I get headaches from wearing them that way.
David Clark Model 310, ~$35

If you really want to stop it down combine ear plugs with over the ear protectors.sigpicComment

As others have mentioned, the only pain I get is the ear cups pushing my eye pro into my temples. With cheap ear pro the pain starts quickly. With more expensive ear pro with gel cups, it takes a couple hours but it still hurts eventually. When I take classes where I need to be wearing ear pro all day, I wear surefire sonic defenders EP4. They are cheap in-ear pro but still allow lower volumes to be heard while shutting out higher volumes.my Benitez goes to 11Comment

I double up especially if I'm at an indoor range. But when I'm at a pistol match it does give me a headache if I have to wear them for six hours. So I usually only wear the muffs when I'm the one shooting, and take them off when I'm back behind the line. Over the day it's much more comfortable.Comment

There are two products that come to mind. Sport ears if you have the money. Or Geizzly Ears. I use my Grizzly ears at the gym because they are bluetooth as well.
They are noise cancelling earplugs. Only 250 or so for the Grizzly ears. If need some let me know. I know the owner very well
My wife thinks I only have 3 guns

There's a company that makes gel cup replacements for the Howard lights along with other brands mentioned here. They aren't cheap but they have a cut out for your eye pro so that they aren't pushing into your temples nor having the eye pro break the seal. I always double up with my Howard's but will probably go this way. I have some Phoenix eye pro that has the super thin sides to pair with ear muffs so that's also why I haven't come across too many pain issues

I'd start here personally, I had a set I got off Amazon for like $55 bucks. Took them for a day of shooting and by the time 5pm rolled around I was tossing cookies because my head hurt so bad. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 that was the pair I still use. I had to stretch the band out on the top A LOT. But once I did, I no longer get cookie tossing headaches.Comment
