Firearms in RV Trailer

Howdy,

I started a similar thread a few months ago when considering a CA trip. Now I'm in Yuma and friends want to head to Anza Borrego so I was double checking

Previously the consensus seemed to be RV my home and I can have a locked and loaded ready to go inside my parked RV at a campsite. On the road its a vehicle.

Subsequent searches here suggest in state parks such as AB no firearms and must be separate from ammo and both locked.

I'm planning on eventually solo boondocking off the grid. I'm a target; 58 years old not big and imposing with nice shiny brand new Airstream and Tacoma. I'm sure two people could over power me no problem. Google "missing people in National Parks" and you'll see my concerns not unfounded.

Anza Borrego is not heavily patrolled being so vast and so few LEO/Rangers (Of course they would find me no matter where I was is I had a non roster firearm or accessory...).

Anyways... I have brought one Sig P229 DA/SA 9mm with a 10 round magazine. I probably have just less than 300 rounds ammo.

Aside from the actual firearm law what about searches? Luckily I look quite conservative and aforementioned rig should keep me squarely in peaceful tourist classification. I'm positive at night when locked in trailer I will have ready to go Sig at arms length but now understanding this is illegal....

Not 100% sure but what I do when traveling is gun locked in it's case and unloaded. Magazines are in the same locked case and are loaded. Not within reach of the driver. I have a trailer so gun goes in cabinet in there.

At night, in the RV, gun is out of the case locked and loaded between the mattress and the wall.

I think Quiet said in the past that if the RV/Trailer is parked at a dedicated/official campsite or trailer park then it’s considered temp home. If otherwise it’s considered vehicle. I’m not sure on BLM land. Maybe he’ll chime. in

Only one magazine?? If you ever actually have to use your gun, you'll wish you had more. I'd say four at a minimum.

And from what I understand, regardless of where you're at, if parked, your RV is your home. If on the road driving, locked up and out of reach. Mags can be loaded and with the gun, but NOT in the gun. Make sure there's no round in the chamber as well.

Arm yourself and make sure the missing people are the bad guys or girls. Some quicklime and a shovel.

There is NO SUCH out of reach provision in Ca PC transportation of firearms required.

Non roster is another question. The roster is idiotic. Of the cosmetically different P229's you're right the Legion is not listed and only three differentiated by finish.... I'm confident all have quite similar builds, same 3.9" barrel length and action....Not sure is anyone could pick one from another without a lot of experience with P229's.

Again why are you concerned about the roster? The roster only apply's to transfer's by a dealer, it has nothing to do with what anyone owns.

As far as mags go, if you've got a Glock just get Magpul mags for it they're cheap.

Got a Sig and Mec-Gar 10 rnd magazines were hard to come by last I looked and $50 each. I got one off eBay...

If the sale/transfer is between private parties. Roster doesn't apply.

If sale/transfer is from dealer stock, it does apply.

Simply owning an off roster handgun is not an issue.

Large capacity magazines or handgun with threaded muzzle are different issues than roster.

If the RV is parked and hooked up, in a designated RV area, then it's considered a residence.
^Firearms can loaded and does not have to be locked up.

If the RV is parked in a non-designated RV area (on or along a road/highway, in a commerical or public parking lot, etc), then it's considered a vehicle.
^Handguns need to be unloaded and in a locked container. When no one is in the vehicle, the locked container needs to be hidden from plain view.
~Long guns need to be unloaded.

The only CA laws requiring ammunition to be in a locked container is when the vehicle is on school grounds.

CA Department of Parks regulations prohibits the possession of loaded firearms in non-prohibited locations of CA state parks.
^The CA Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is a prohibited location, so any firearm in your RV needs to be unloaded and in a container [14 CCR 4313(c)].
*Exemption to this for CA resident with a valid CA CCW permit.

I have RV'd for 4 decades and have never had any LEO enter any tent or RV ever...why would they? I never locked up any handgun, nor will I ever. Better to be judged by 12 then...well you know the rest.

Anza Borego rules are no shooting. It doesn't say you can't open carry at your campsite. Follow CA gun laws and there are no issues.

Exit the park and shoot all day long on BLM land. Carry a good map.
