Anyone using a magnet for bedside access?

Considering a couple of magnets for easy access to bedside and/or desk hd gun. Any worry of magnetizing slide/gun?

Thoughts one way or the other, pros/cons?

Con - Too easy to grab the trigger in the dark for my liking.

Practice proper techniques until second nature. How is this any different than obtaining a weapon from a nightstand or anywhere else?

You might leave a gun laying on the nightstand (lots do), but I don't. It is either in a safe or a holster. The holster covers the trigger so when half asleep the trigger cannot be grabbed. Doesn't really have anything to do with practice in my opinion. If you just lay it on a nightstand, it might be in any place and orientation and probably with no consistency.

At least with the magnet it would be in the same place and orientation so that practice would probably help reduce the chance of grabbing the trigger.

Most people will not practice at all grabbing their gun in the middle of the night after being woken up by a noise. It's different than just sitting on the bed in the evening and practicing.

this. i do wonder how many who do keep nightstand guns practice by having their spouse get up in the middle of the night, and make some banging noises with the pots/pans and practice reacting and to grab their gun. wonder how many would just ND and how many would even think of grabbing the gun in the first place instead of just getting up and walking out of the bed room?

I believe the magnets, and gun, would be mounted under the nightstand so the gun is not obvious and it would minimize sound - e.g. no opening up of a drawer. Not a bad idea.

Mount it to a holster? Then magnetize?

Magnets out of old hard drives work well and will not harm the firearm.

If you are afraid of marring the arm slap a piece of packing tape over the magnet.

well the spouse should not stay in the shadows once noise is made.

maybe the practice can be the spouse wakes the person up, saying they heard a noise.

Been using one for over a year....holds tight, no issues. The magnet has a rubber coating on it....nothing is happening to your gun.

I screwed the magnet holder under my platform-style bed and situate the G34 so that I can just roll over from sleeping position and swing my right hand down under the bed and it hits right into the grip.

You cannot see the gun without getting down on all fours and looking for it.

                              .
