    San Diego UOC lunch?

Anybody up for a UOC lunch down here soon? I missed the last one a couple of months back, and never heard how it went.

Unloaded Open Carry. It is when we go to a lunch wearing unloaded sidearms. It's a hoot, but I missed the one this past winter. It was supposed to be at Mission Bay, but I couldn't go.

The last one was Feb 28 in Pacific Beach. Was a lot of fun. I know there is one in the planning but not sure when it will be. check the threads here and you might find the one from Pullnshoot that announced it.

I missed it as well. I'd be down for the next one, pending work schedule of course.

Pullnshoot should be chiming in anytime now.

              Persistance

While it is contrary to the advice being given by the Calguns Jedi counsel, I do not think it is necessary to wait for Pullnshoot25 and his merry band of open carriers to organize a mass event to go have lunch armed.

The big events as have been had in San Diego have been effective in breaking the ice with new people, -however the fact that this activity is not being conducted with any frequency or regularity negates the effect of desensitization, does not educate police and bystanders, and the infrequency makes OC seem like a fad or an opportunistic stunt.

If you want an OC event to go to... make your own. Schedule a get together with some like-minded friends and have an informal lunch or go window shopping or catch a movie. It doesnt take 35 open carriers to do this- actually doing this on your own schedule with 3,4, or 5 advocates with greater frequency is better than doing it once or twice a year. Waiting for another event to be scheduled like waiting for a bus, when you already possess the means to get around.

Citadel I think the reason we are planning this one is one of our calgunners is about to go to play in the sandbox and well we want to be able to say goodbye to him before he goes.

Good. One can be planned in honor of the service members big send off. And smaller cellular groups can plan their own, without relying on some major event planner to step up.

                        HERE I AM!

OK guys, here is the deal. The OC meet that I wanted to throw for this month looks like it will get pushed back a few days due to tests happening right around then and all that inconvenient stuff as well as some local political drama that I may or may not need to sort out (details later). In addition, I am giving an OC seminar of sorts on the 21st at Denny's in Clairemont (check the calendar on my blog) so my "expendable" time will be spent on that (got tests on the 22nd!)

For those interested, CLICK HERE for the Third SD OC Meet writeup.

I agree with CitaDel on the "self-determination" thing (not to quote the ScrU-N) but as always, BE CAREFUL AND HAVE YOUR CRAP TOGETHER! Go with someone who is at least experienced (even mildly) and make sure you know your rights. I, of course, am always up for consultations if the need arises. For the sake of safety and reducing the possibility of an LEO interaction, try to keep your group sizes to about 5 people, 4 minimum and all of you better have working voice recorders or an unarmed camera team! (I personally recommend the unarmed camera team at the moment to tell you the truth)

Again, if you guys have any questions or need consultations on anything, PM me with a phone number or something and I will be more than happy to converse with you.

If in SD county sheriff area, they should be pretty well trained about the law concerning this. They are also well informed about the recent "meets" and the use of the recorder and video, so they will be on their best behaviour. There was a memo sent around recently from the DA on how they need to handle these calls, and how it's basically a non issue so dont get too worked up about it. They also said unless the gun is loaded, there is no point to extend the contact.

This is true but it is still better to be guarded than overly optimistic. Some cops are still willfully ignorant of OC and will need to have a good "boot in the ***" reminder from the higher-ups in the case of a screw-up.
