So, what do you do when it's raining all weekend? What else but outdoor shooting! Saturday was a local USPSA match; and Sunday was an IDPA Classifier.
Saturday was really amusing, however. With all the rain, mud and puddle of water you'd find shooters doing either a TACTICAL reload or a RELOAD with retention, rather than the usual speed reloads. Mostly those in the Open and Limited divisions with their souped up "race" guns.
Albeit, they had to change a magazine only once in a stage.
And here I am with a Glock in the Production division dropping my magazines everywhere!!! In heavy mud, in the puddle, etc. All I did before each stage is just wipe out the exterior of mud - no taking apart and no cleaning, no brushing, etc. Yeah, whenever I hear gasps when I drop my magazines, I simply boast, "... this is a Glock!!!"
This Saturday was indeed a good day to test Glock's reliability. It didn't fail me.
Being my first match for 2019 - it was refreshing to get back after a 3-months' hiatus (because of shooting classes). Guess I have lots to work at, at least the first few months:
Everything said, I am consistent with being in the bottom 30% when it comes to overall stage rank but in the top 30% in the Classifer. Much sandbaggers...? Hahaha!
Sunday is a different pace. Wanting to compete in the coming weekend's IDPA regionals using my sub-compact M&P Shield 9, I had to be classified at least a Marksman (MM). So headed early morning to Prado and paid $30 ($10 for the Classifier fee + $20 for the range fee).
.... and... shooting BUG (Backup Gun) made for another very humbling experience.
Compared to my times when I shot the Classfier last June 2018 with a full-size (G34.3) in the stock division:
On average, my draws to shot were 2-sec, splits were at 1-sec, and slide lock reload to shot were close to 5-sec.
Of course, NOT having a stock 7-lbs trigger did help then...
So, with the inherent difficulty in shooting a sub-compact, I do not understand why someone would get a sub-compact as a first pistol for himself, a girlfriend, a guyfriend, a spouse, etc.
I have attended a few classes where the instructor basically advised against it - Front Sight, Uncle Scotty and Larry Vickers. Moreso, is as a FIRST pistol and as a FIRST CCW pistol.
Regardless, left Prado just before 9am and headed for a nice warm breakfast at El Taco Nazo in Valley Blvd near the 605. Yum!!! The best fish tacos I have had outside of going to Ensenada.
Then headed back home and binged on SWAT with Amazon Video.

- Visual transitions
- Efficiency of movements / stage planning

- String #1 - Draw and shoot 5-rds to the body + 3.25
- String #2 - Draw and shoot 5-rds to the body strong-hand only + 3.79
- String #3 - Draw and shoot 5-rds to the body, perform a slide-lock reload then another 5-rds to the body + 7.86
- String #4 - Draw and shoot 4-rds to the body, and 1-rd to the head + 4.55
