Of course you can buy things - the merchant simply holds onto it for your 10 day wait just as they would had you completed your purchase at a brick and mortar location. No cash-and-carry firearms in CA anymore (C&R) but some deals occasionally can be found at shows.

Excuse my ignorance, I’m from Texas where everything is easier.
If the dealer is from out of the area do they have a local FFL around you can use?

IMHO they are not worth the effort. You're generally out $16 bucks or more before you walk in between parking and admission and then you only find limited selections and deals that you can easily beat at your local gun shops.
I gave up on them 15 years ago.

Most of the wiser people also gave up on gun shows. Unless you like beef jerky, Indian jewelry, Nazi stuff & toy trucks, they're a big waste of your time.

Most guns will be pretty overpriced at gun shows here. I only ever go to restock on things like cleaning supplies or paper targets, I found that stuff like that can be had at lower than usual prices.

it's better shop at a regular gun store with a good reputation

prices are marked up at gun shows, and they dont give deals on anything like the old days.

and you have to watch out for people trying to get rid of junk or problem guns that they wont tell you about if it has a problem.

a dealer tried to sell me a pistol with a cracked slide, he put a sticker right over the crack to hide it.

Buy at the auction sites for way better deals. Use a kitchen table dealer for the transfer, usually $35 DROS plus sales tax. Gun shows are just for finger ****ing the guns and gear, people watching and crop dusting the crowd.

Gun shows in California have very few guns for sale. As everyone above said they are expensive and generally pointless for anyone interested in actually buying a gun.

There is generally a transfer dealer at the show from the local area that the show takes place in. Notice I said generally, you just have to ask once you arrive.

If you are from Texas put aside everything you think you know about guns shows. California shows are a waste of time IMHO.

Used to be able to get a good deal on ammo at them, but last few times i went everything was cheap knock-offs and over priced for the bubbas..
