The British SLR, 1969 model
First rifle I used in 1970, in the military - gave you a lovely slap on the cheek as it jolted your shoulder back. Blew your eardrums as well (no ear plugs in those days)

hypothetically... a 1851 Maynard .51 Cal., purchased for $3.75 by a relative in about 1910. The .22 he used to hunt deer was deemed "too small" by his elder brothers. Despite that handicap he regularly brought home venison with a teeny, tiny single hole in the brain. So he "upgraded" to a Civil War .51 cartridge single shot rifle. This was if the not the first, at least one of the first rifles that took a metallic self contained load... minus the primer. A primer cap needed to be placed on the nipple, so it is kinda a percussion firearm. The rifle is a fairly important stepping stone to the modern firearms we enjoy today. He claimed he did better with the .22 single shot.
This same world class marksman
won Camp Perry high power shoots with his O6 Springfield about 1927.
