Was watching a video of these guys at Shot. The spokesman said they bought the AA12 design because they wanted it to be a shotgun everyone could own. Is that why they're only making 2000 and charging $3k each? smhComment

If that's the case, it provides the explanation. The guy who created the thing famously (or infamously) said he would never make it available to the general public; particularly in the case of the full auto version. (Of course, he may have been referencing the 1986 ban on 'new' full auto weapons.) It had received some media attention...
...then it took a lead role in...
Now... A lot of people want one. As a result, there may be a perception that a sufficient market exists and this is the 'test run.'Last edited by TrappedinCalifornia; 01-27-2019, 7:21 PM.Comment

The FA version is useless.
I got to play with one in the erly 1990s, when it was called the USAS 12, IIRC, when i was 25, 220 lbs.
Been around firearms all my life. Jumped at the chance to fire one.
On full auto, no matter how far i leaned forward, rounds 3 and 4 were leaving the target and the muzzle was going to be pointed straight up if i kept going.
Tried it a dozen times, so did other gun guys, nobody could fire it FA.
As a semi, a short, 25 round shotgun wouod be hpgrewt for room clearing.
I saw a promo vidoe at a gun show shortly after my experience, a bunch kf small guys running around blasting mag dumps with no muzzle rise at all.Last edited by Citadelgrad87; 01-27-2019, 7:34 PM.Originally posted by tony270It's easy to be a keyboard warrior, you would melt like wax in front of me, you wouldn't be able to move your lips.Originally posted by repubconservPrint it out and frame it for all I careOriginally posted by el chivoI don't need to think at all..XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOriginally posted by pjsigYou are talking to someone who already won this lame conversation, not a brick a wall. The creator, Maxwell Atchisson, never said that.
His first gen AA-12 (pre-'86 Title 2 MG) was made from 1972-1986.
In 1987, he sold the design and rights to Jerry Baber (MPS Inc).
In 1988, John Trevor (former engineer that worked with Maxwell Atchisson) developed a product improved version (second gen AA-12) and got Daewoo Precision to make two different versions of it (post-'86 Title 2 MG and Title 1 Shotgun, which was later reclassified by BATFE as a Title 2 DD).
Daewoo Percision Industries was acquired by S&T Holdings & reformed as S&T Daewoo in 2006, which was restructured as S&T Motiv in 2012.
S&T Motiv still lists the second gen AA-12 (USAS-12, post-'86 Title 2 MG) as a limited production item.
In 2005, MPS Inc debuted the third gen AA-12 (post-'86 Title 2 MG).
During the mid-2010s, Jerry Baber stated MPS Inc would never make a civilian legal version of the AA-12.
Jerry Baber employed Boje Cornils to product improve/redesign the previous gens to make the third gen AA-12.
In 2018, Boje Cornils split from MPS Inc and teamed up with Sol Invictus Arms to make Title 1 Shotgun versions of the third gen AA-12.Last edited by Quiet; 01-27-2019, 7:51 PM.sigpic

He may not have; though, in some circles, it has become an 'urban legend.' It may have become conflated with the 1986 ban on full-auto firearms and/or the idea that there was an attempt to get militaries and law enforcement to adopt it, but "our Government won't work with little folks like us." (see video below) When a 'civilian' version was announced last year, the lack of availability to the average citizen was the plug...AFAIK...

...Now Boje Cornils is working with Tactical Superiority, Inc. and Sol Invictus Arms, to bring this amazing firearm to the masses...
“We’re proud to be a part of the legacy of the infamous AA-12 Shotgun and happy to be able to bring a civilian version to market.” Said Michael Conn, President and CEO of Tactical Superiority, Inc. when asked for comment...
As an example of how this feeling spread... The Semi-Auto Civilian Atchisson Assault Shotgun, AKA the AA-12
Coming Soon: AA-12 Shotgun in Semi-Auto for Civilians...Designed as a military and police-only room and street sweeper and close range battle gun, Baber couldn’t drum up much interest in the low recoil select-fire 12 gauge among government buyers. For whatever reason...
You can finally order your own (semi-automatic) AA-12...It’s a fully-automatic 12 gauge shotgun originally designed back in the 1970s by Max Atchisson (the AA stands for Atchisson Assault) specifically to be a low-recoil option for law enforcement and military personnel... Ever since, it has largely been verboten for civilians in the U.S., as there was no semi-automatic version of the AA-12, until now...
...However, despite having some (admittedly troubled) history behind it and even some copycats, the AA-12 has never been available for civilian purchase, and as an automatic weapon, would still require a federal license and a boat load of cash to store in your home safe — that is, until now...Last edited by TrappedinCalifornia; 01-27-2019, 8:29 PM.Comment

In regards to the creator, Max Atchisson, he sold of the design/rights in 1987 due to the May'86 full-auto ban for civilians and how he did want to make/sell for just Gov/Mil/LE agencies.
All of the original first gen AA-12, that were kept in the USA (most were exported to other countries), are fully transferable pre-'86 Title 2 MG.
^Good luck finding one. Last time I saw one for sale, it was an offer from a private collection to a prop master for $15k in 1997.Last edited by Quiet; 01-27-2019, 9:07 PM.sigpic

The USAS 12 is a different gun, and much less controllable. The AA12 is pretty much recoilless. The FA version is useless.

Partisanship is cancer. Glory to the USA, glory to Ukraine, and I hope that someday Russia is free and the normal people have a voice.

I always thought the original atchisson assault 12 was limited to a prototype and 1 other full transferable. None were of the better gas operated design and had a m16 triangle style handguard. Eventually a few were made in the late 80s through 90s with the more commonly known plastic body and some of those could have been snuck in as full transferables. Pretty much what everyone thinks is an atchison assault 12 is really an auto assault 12. This was all way before my time so it is just info I have learned from dealers that own variants or guys that worked at defunct companies like Gilbert and ramo so it is not first hand info. A local dealer near me has a few usas 12 dd's and he told me a bit of the history years ago.AFAIK...
