A friend of mine has one of these and it works pretty well. Feeding from the stripper clip--especially if you have the guide installed on the ejection port--is very quick.

You know what works even better? A grip fin, muzzle-brake and detachable magazine.

I have a muzzle brake, pinned stock and Hammerhead grip.

I hate the Hammerhead but I couldn't care less about not being able to adjust my stock. The muzzle brake is louder but actually performs a lot better than the birdcage. I like the standard mag release so much that it outweighs the pistol grip.

Definitely. Standard mag release makes using a featureless grip small potatoes. And there are a ton of muzzle device options besides a really loud brake, like a linear compensator , "blast shield" or even just a thread protector. You dont have to use the loudest most obnoxious muzzle brake you can find.

You could always go fixed mag if it somehow escapes the next ban which will probably be all semiauto rifles, featureless and fixed mag.

Yes, but none of that makes your AR/AK pistol featureless. I have a dozen Bear Flag Defense loaders. 10x better than the bullet button. There is really only a benefit to featureless if you have pre-ban large cap mags. I have none.

Muzzle device, non-collapsable stock and losing pistol-grip are what makes your rifle featureless.

Even if I only had 10 round mags, I'd still do what I had to to use detachable mags. That single feature (detachable mags) is what makes the gun so useful. The rest is just cosmetic.

And forget about registering, the state can suck a bag of dicks before I register with them.

I got one a few weeks ago. Tried to use it last time out and had problems. Caused a double feed and a jam. I’ll give it another shot but not too confident. I’ve decided to install the Houge fixed mag system instead. That works great.

The most problematic gun at our range that I continuously have to help clear a jam on is:

An AR with a fixed magazine.

I've seen them all and they all have problems. I'm an AR owner as well, I have many. I went the "featureless" route on mine in order to keep reliability. I bought a 80% arms fixed magazine kit and set it up on a spare stripped upper/lower as a demo for our RSO's. If I were to use one that would be the one because it can be quickly removed so that the receivers can be separated if needed.
