Would it look strange if you parkerized the firearm?

Parerizing is not that difficult to do very well at home.

Another option is brownells sprays- the air cure are not as strong as the ones you bake- heat cure

I’ve had great results with the birchwood Casey gel. But you do need at least 3 applications to get a deep blue.

I also use gunkote bake on paint, but that requires a sand blaster to do the surface prep correctly

I've had good luck with Van's Instant Gun Blue. Cleaning the metal well and heating it a bit makes a difference.

You could boil it per the directions, or once it's brown, convert to black/blue with a cold blue

You can even re-heat and reapply easily

just did a restoration job this weel on a old 22. with mold and 50% rust coverage.
used birchwood casey...
the small bottle is all you need and a certain skill set...
whole job took 11hrs and gun looks near new

I did the bluing on my SG. but it didnt solve the rust problem as I hunted lots of damp weather. Kept rusting so I painted it. Still good as new today, even after 20 years ago. Not saying bluing is bad, just that itll rust again, sooner or later.

Cold bluing works very well but surface prep and following the directions are key..... I put 9 layers on a rifle barrel and it came out cherry
