bowling for columbine can suck on this...

Some 39,000 people died in 2003 due to gun-related injuries nationwide.[4] In 2004, the number was 36,000.[3] Although Brazil has 100 million fewer citizens than the United States, and more restrictive gun laws, there are 25 percent more gun deaths

    straight from wikipedia...

so america isn't the most gun violent nation.

I believe that the main way that anti-gunners get around that is that they claim that the U.S. has the highest level of gun violence among the "civilized" or "industrialized" nations. I'm not sure about the Bowling for Columbine statistic, however.

A very important thing to remember when they give you that 39,000 36,000.... number is that's ALL firearms related deaths: Suicides, Murders, terroist actions and justifiable homicides.

i can't remember what the statistic given in bowling for columbine was, did it include ALL firearm related deaths?

i just know that it was repeatedly insinuated that america is the most gun violent for some "unknown reason."

it'd be funny if that too weren't true.

edit: the 36k is given for brazil's gun related deaths... your cdc report, isn't that for america????

I have a really hard time figuring out how some people can have so much trust in the powers that be to keep them safe, and they feel by taking away all our guns crime will just disappear?

Look at the U.K., among others: even in per capita figures, they have fewer gun deaths. How do you explain that?

They may have fewer gun deaths, but I've seen with my own eyes how much other violence occurs - I saw more bar fights in one week out in London than I did in a year working as a bouncer at The Saddlerack in SJ back in the 1970's.

The English are just as kill happy as the rest of the world, they just don't use firearms as much as the U.S.
The way some gunshop clerks spout off, you'd think that they invented gunpowder and the repeating rifle, and sat on the Supreme Court as well.

You don't need a gun to cull sheep.... knives are cheap and quiet.

I lived in Europe for a while... Spent a fair amount of time in Britain... Guns were completely illegal.... And there was no shortage of them ANYWHERE.... And yes... They got used in crimes ALL THE TIME....

My theory is, the brits are just bad shots which is the only thing that accounts for the low death rate.

All I see is a skirting of the issue and mocking of the Brits rather than admitting that banning guns = fewer gun deaths.

Will criminals still buy guns on the black market? You bet! Will insane psychos who are normal one day and killing their son and themselves the next day have access? No. Unfortunately, in the latter case, neither will the normal folk, if there is such a thing.

Are you advocating more gun control?

And another thing, I wouldn't blame fewer gun deaths in the UK due to gun control, I think it has more to due with their immigration policy as it's more restrictive compared to the US.
