My solution to storage (moisture)

I have one of these in my safe with a hygrometer. I'm a 5 minute drive to the ocean. The humidity in the safe doesn't exceed 50%-52% at most. Take it out every so often and plug it in the wall outlet. Super easy and it works. If I had a bigger safe and more guns, I'd probably have two of those, but I don't.
For ammo and handgun storage, I just use the indicating packets and microwave them every so often. In case it wasn't obvious, nothing I write here should be interpreted as legal advice. -
Get a goldenrod.
You cannot eliminate moisture in a safe.
Goldenrod fixes the rust issue.
You can also use any light bulb to generate heat and prevent rust
I know three people who destroyed guns when desiccant spilled in a safe and then trapped moisture on thingsRule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED
Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)
Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET
Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

Rice works as a dessicant too.
Not sure if it recharges when you put it in the oven, but you could just cook it after three months.
By using it, it's effectively free dessicant for your safe.Comment

I've been using those from Amazon for years. When beads change color maybe once every 6 mos or so I just plug them in and recharge. Have 5 of them in my safe. Really like that product.https://www.amazon.com/Improved-Eva-...38461812&psc=1

I prefer this form factor over the bags. It's just more robust and easier to deal with for a safe. But if you needed a bunch of packs for ammo cans or something, your method is probably ideal. Good info and thanks for posting.

I have one in each of my stack on lockers. So far they go about a week or so between recharges. No hint of rust.Comment
