(CBS 5) SAN FRANCISCO A teenager bailed out of jail by community groups who were outraged over his arrest is back behind bars, with police upset at those who got him out.
The San Francisco Police Officers Association, a union representing more than 2,000 police officers, is upset that yet again 19-year-old Tyrelle Taylor, who has a history of violent charges, has been picked up again for allegedly carrying an AK-47 assault weapon.
"Our cops are demoralized for reasons like this," said San Francisco Police Officers Association President Gary Delagnes. "These aren't just your run-of-the-mill recidivist criminals. These are recidivist criminals with weapons, with guns, with AKs, with M-16s. There has to be a greater consideration of who the hell you're letting out."
Taylor was arrested Monday night in the Hunters Point. He was out on bail awaiting trial, accused of being in a shootout at the same intersection in September 2005. Taylor was also involved in a scuffle with police in 2002.
Monge-Irizarry and the foundation she started in her son's memory had raised the $15,000 to get Taylor out of jail after the alleged shootout with police.
"I've met Tyrelle," said Mesha Monge-Irizarry. "He was a very sweet boy. He was currently working."
Monge-Irizarry told CBS 5 she does not regret raising money to post Taylor's bail.
"I'm communicating with the family. If it is true, my position is all our kids are redeemable," she said. "To me, the real criminal is the city for not providing the jobs, the healthcare, the schooling system that our kids need as an alternative to illegal survival means."
Taylor was still out on bail Monday night because his trial over the alleged shootout with police was not scheduled to start until November 19.
Wednesday, the San Francisco District Attorney's Office charged Taylor with five felony counts of gang involvment, carrying an assault weapon, an unregistered and loaded firearm, being a gang member in possession of a firearm, and false imprisonment.
Taylor was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday morning, according to the district attorney's office."
Maybe they will bail him out again.. And where are they getting the M16's from?
