I think it all depends on the sellers asking price and knowing what retail cost is. Last week I PM a guy selling .45acp Winchester white box to ask if his price was firm because it was the same price I could get at my local Walmart. He responded that he didn't want to take a loss so I told him good luck and have a good Holidays.

On the flip side I met a guy that sold me 600 rounds of .45 ACP Winchester white box for $120. That is way cheaper than Walmart. I met up with him again and bought another 500 rounds later again for a way cheaper price that Walmart. Just have to know what price you can get it for in the store and see if it is worth it. I still have a FFL that sells bulk ammo for a good price and use that to reference off of as well.

Picture is from Solar tactical in Castro Valley, they offer good deals. If I find better deals than that I jump on it.

I buy and sell random stuff online all the time. It doesn't matter what it is im buying! If its off a private party im not paying almost store price. With that being said im not asking a person to take 50% off either lol. I sell stuff and i dont try to sell anything for store price even if its unopened and i still have the receipt. For me ammo is no different. I live by LAx ammo in Inglewood and work by lax ammo in OC. For me it's nothing to get to either one. I guess i was trying to understand why it seems like most ads in there are retail or close to retail price (because its "ammo"?). Oh no! Lol

Not used ammo being resold prior to use. Some ammo deals are ok. Hard to find, non lead, etc. No sales tax helps with the prices.

for example, a 640 round spam can of 7.62x39 Russian for $60...a 1000 rounds of NATO 308 (in 2, GI 50 cal ammo cans) for $120. You just have to be quick (and lucky)

While those don’t look like bad prices, they’re significantly more expensive than what’s available online. For example:

                  Remington UMC 9mm - $159/1,000 shipped
                  Remington UMC 40 - $239/1,000 shipped
                  PMC 40 - $275/1,000 shipped
                  Tula 223 - $206/1,000 shipped
                  Tula 308 - $156/500 shipped

"Online" is the key word there. Not everyone has a 03FFL or COE to order online.

But you only need to buy one case of ammo online vs in store and you just paid for your ffl03/COE. For example, one case of Remington 9mm saves you approximately $100 after taxes, which is about the cost of the license.

Approximately 50 percent over online prices.
In case it wasn't obvious, nothing I write here should be interpreted as legal advice.

Okay so lesson here if people still want good ammo prices they need to get a 03FFL/COE. I will probably be applying for a COE but as of now I do not have one so options are limited.

So do you have to get the 03FFL and COE to order ammo online? Or is the COE sufficient enough?

You need both in order to do online ammo purchases.

Thanks for the info, looking into this so far it seems many online vendors still won't ship to California even with a 03FFL and COE. Like cheaper than dirt or Midway. So far I only found that targetusa will ship. Is this still true or any other good websites to order from? Looking at the prices on target USA I agree it is worth the livescan and fees to get the FFL and COE. And the couple month wait to get both it seems. I will be applying for my 03FFL and COE since I do like to shoot and ammo is my biggest cost at this point.

midway and cheaper than dirt are the retail pricing of the internet world.

use targetsportsusa and palmetto(when they run the sales) for ammo needs.

of course standard cavet of "check for deals/sales" will apply. but if you don't want to do any deal searching, targetsportsusa is the best place to goto.
