If he would have just stuck with Afghanistan there would have been a biological, chemical, or nuclear attack on American soil by now. Regardless of whether he was involved in making weapons of mass destruction of his own, Mr. Hussain was involved in actively letting Al Qaeda utilize his country's territory and resources to plan and execute terrorist attacks against the US. With the recent North Korean test I have no doubt whatsoever a North Korean bomb or parts thereof would end up in the hands of Al Qaeda in Iraq. If we don't get more savy (not neccessarily military options) about Iran a nuke could end up in Al Qaeda's hands there as well.

The bottom line is that if there's a "moderate Islam" I haven't seen it yet. These people hate everything we stand for and have no qualms about sacraficing their own lives to kill just one or two of us. The would gladly lay down their lives by the dozen for the opportunity to injure or kill just a single American. It stands to be reasoned that unlike other states and cultures who would not use weapons of mass destruction, these people would have no problem using weapons of mass destruction even if their own destruction by nuclear retaliation was assured.

The followers of Islam believe in absolute truths beyond this world, and that death is the beginning not the end. Our way of life is totally incompatible with their religion and they only answer to god not us so diplomacy is a waste of time. Not to be cynnical but at this point the best we can hope to do is continue to buy time to better prepare ourselves for a nuclear, chemical, or biological attack on our soil because although it hasn't happened yet it is going to I assure you. And if the Democrats win and decide to "play nice" and withdraw troops, it will be seen only as a sign of weakness.

Summary: we're totally screwed, but at least off-list lowers are still legal !

Obviously you didn't read my whole post and just skimmed the first part. There is no more/less safe. We're screwed. We're fighting a fanatical enemy that believes in absolute truths beyond this world. Fighting in Iraq and other locales merely staves off the inevitable nuclear, biological, and/or chemical attack that is assured at some future time. Unlike rational states such as the UK, France, and China that possess weapons of mass destruction, religious zealots will use these weapons regardless of any possible nuclear or other retaliation. They are willing to throw down their lives by the dozen just for the chance to injure or kill a Westerner.

Islam and Western Society are totally incompatible. It goes beyond them simply disagreeing with our way of life, their god has condemed our way of life. To them we are infidels that are an affront to the human race and they will suffer in the afterlife (which unlike this life lasts an eternity) if they don't kill as many of us as possible. Peace is not possible without us converting to Islam and adopting an Islamic way of life.
