The M6 Scout is Back - Sorta

I wasn't sure where to put this as the firearm is both a shotgun and rimfire, so it goes here unless/until a moderator can think of a more appropriate location.

I've never heard of this outfit, but they are bringing back the M6 Scout... M6 Takedown Survival Series

There have been a number of changes made to the basic design; e.g., choke tubes, thicker stock, AR-style takedown pin, 'customizable' shell storage, blued rather than Parkarized or stainless, no 'safety' setting (replaced with push button safety), and the description lists the grip/stock as "aluminum" (I think the original was all steel; but, I could be wrong). This model is available in the .22LR/.410 and a .22 WMR/.410 combination.

The page says... How to order: Please contact your local FFL dealer. Dealers can order through our distributor, RSR Group Inc.

Somehow, the guy who owns or runs this company is tied to Dave Canterbury, a big proponent of the M6. I'll save you the trouble of clicking the YouTube link on that page to Canterbury's 'unboxing review' of the firearm...

As a basis of comparison, here's a 2008 piece on the M6 Scout, as well as a 2003 piece entitled Springfield Armory M-6 Scout Survival Gun which includes a series of .jpg images of the military tech bulletin.

I have an original SA Inc M6 without the trigger guard or safety. 3 digit SN. Still going strong after untold .410 and .22 rounds through it!

Yeah, I just saw an ad for these while perusing gun rags at the grocery store.
Way too expensive, but it looks like they focused on quality and it’s a real small enterprise.
I had one of the CZ versions and while it was damn fun I couldn’t get the .22 Hornet to group worth much as the front sight was lopsided and I think the stock cover was crooked. Still an awesome gun and I’d consider another in .22 WMR/.410

Just read about this today in the latest copy of firearms news. Glad to see this unique design continue. Making the takedown pin captive like an AR on the new one was a great decision. Appears to be a very well built clone of the original. I look forward to seeing one in person. Who knows, impulse purchase may kick in.

Damn, I already have a M6 in 22lr over .410. I would have considered getting one in .22 hornet over .410 but, it looks like I'll just have to wait until I find an old one for a decent price.

Interesting.. So the USAF wanted the M6 Scout with a 14 inch barrel and wanted no part of rimfire..

Also found this article in Small Arms Review ( 1999) of a company called Athens Arms and Ordinance who were going to manufacture the M6 Scout in a 14 inch .22 Hornet/.410 version as an Any other Weapon. For general sales.

              Wonder what happened.

Big things sometime come in small packages we hear, and the M6 Scout AOW by Athens Arms & Ordnance is no exception. Once I was formally initiated in to the world of Class III, I started looking at everything differently. I was no longer satisfied with most “Factory” firearms and now every gun I look at has basically become the foundation for a “fine-tuning” project. After the Title II bug bites, it is hopeless. Most every gun now falls into the one of the following categories; barrel should be shorter, gun should be suppressed, gun should fire full auto, gun should be louder, gun should have a flash expander, gun should have a flash hider, or a combination of any 2 or 3. Fortunately for us, Dudley Calfee of Athens Arms & Ordnance seems to look at things the same way.

A bit expensive but worth the cool kid points.

If you click the link in the OP, MSRP is $589 for either version.

Cheaper Than Dirt is listing them at $459; but, I'd take that with a grain of salt given there are things which don't seem 'correct' in the listing.

There's another outfit listing it for $512.05.

I see them listed in RSR Group's catalog (supposedly the exclusive distributor at the moment), but I can't see what the wholesale price is.

It comes across as a bit 'expensive' to me; but, that's comparing it to the old retail price of the Springfield/CZ. Compared to the prices I see on GunBroker for the Springfield M6's, it's less expensive; running somewhere between $475 - $500. Compared to the prices on the Savage 24's, it's in the 'ballpark.' Compared to a Savage 42, the MSRP is about $89 more for the M6 Takedown.

In other words, it ain't 'cheap,' but it seems 'competitive' depending on what you're looking for and the expectations you hold.

There's a thread on BushcraftUSA where someone said they picked up one of the new TPS M6's and provided a bit of a narrative, with pictures, of how it shot as he played with the sight. (Those images are near the bottom of page 1, with others on page 2 of the thread.)

Very interesting. I've been eyeballing the M6 for a while now, just never found a Springfield locally. I may need to look into this one.

                              I sold a SA version in .22LR/.410.

                              I would love a .22 Hornet/.410 version...one of these days, haha!!
You will never, in your life, have a chance like this again.
