Any recommendations for a service to transport firearms?

    Hey y'all,

So, I finally got out of Kali about 6 months (thank you USAF!) I am back here visting my folks on leave, where I left my firearms. I have been meaning to get them out to where I am stationed, but since I came by plane I cant bring them home with me. Does anybody know of any services or means to have the firearms tranported to where I live?

      1) You can take firearms with you as checked luggage.

Learn how to properly prepare, pack and declare firearms and ammunition in checked baggage when flying. Review TSA rules, airline policies, and legal requirements.

      2) ATF states that one can ship firearms to oneself in another state:

      6. May I lawfully ship a firearm to myself in a different State?

Any person may ship a firearm to himself or herself in the care of another person in the State where he or she intends to hunt or engage in any other lawful activity. The package should be addressed to the owner “in the care of” the out-of-State resident. Upon reaching its destination, persons other than the owner must not open the package or take possession of the firearm.

      So UPS or Fedex.

      3) You could ship the firearms to an FFL in your new state. You could also have a CA based FFL ship the firearms to an FFL in your state.

      4) Personally, I'd do a roadtrip!

Handguns may not be shipped to your self. Long gins can go usps to yourself. No large cap mags. Fly with the handguns.

Still waiting to find out where you want them transported too. I have (adult) kids visiting for the holidays who will be driving through several states on their way home.

Sorry for the late update, but I really appreciate all the feedback. I am stationed in Florida.

                Where is that spelled out?

IIRC, non-FFLs can't use USPS to ship handguns, and the common carriers charge non-FFLs a fortune to ship handguns ( one of the reasons why a person may want to use an FFL to ship, as it may work out to be cheaper in the end).

                  Road Trip!

Some of my fondest memories are of cross country road trips made when I was young. Like driving east into and through the night and watching the sun rise in front of me as I motored on.

                  Did I mention road trip??

How many guns do you have and how big are they? A pelican 1615 air case will hold a good amount. You'd likely have to pay for the overage but it may still be cheaper than trying to ship them. And they'll remain in your control for the most part.

Check the airline regs, American has a limit of 4.

Alaska Airlines would say, "Only checking four?"

Seriously, Alaska airlines does not limit the number of firearms you can check, but does limit the number of cases and the case type.
