    A little Ballistics

As something I was trying to point out before, here is some information that might help shooting some.

Looking at three ammos all done by Federal, all .223 ammo, all 55 grain, all 205 primers and all with a muzzle velocity of 3240fps

    Model________________Type_________________________ Velocity @ 500yds

    Federal .223A_______Soft Point__________________________1420fps

    Eagle Arms .223_______FMJBT____________________________1666fp s

    Premium .223________Sierra Gameking BTHP_________________1573fps

All I was trying to point out before was that when you just change ammo it can REALLY cause some problems. Try to keep everything the same and take notes of changes as changing ammo. You may find that some ammo shoot better in your firearm then others do.

It is good to point this out jemaddux.

This is especially true if you are actually trying to hit things beyond 100 yards. Inside 100 yards, the difference caused by the ammunition should be negligible. Keep this in mind when dialing in your scopes and red dots. If you insist on using lots of different ammunition, you might want to make a table of how much 'dope' you need for each particular brand/bullet weight/type of ammo at varying distances.

I use to make a little card and tape it to the side of my stock showing the 100 to 300 yd bullet trajectory. nothing fancy for me since it was only a deer rifle and a shot past 200yds would be pretty unusual but you could make a fancy one on you're PC with more info on it, i got this tip from a gun rag many moons ago.

this is why I need to get out to a longer range with both .17 TNT and Vmax rounds, see which my savage likes more

Even at close range knowing what you are shooting can really help out

The .223A is 2747fps at 100yds (loss of 15% velocity), American Eagle is 2950fps at 100yds (loss of 9%velocity), and the Premium Sierra Gameking is 2773fps at 100yds (loss of 14% velocity). First hundred yards can really make difference.
